Cashing a cheque

Post by t1ggyw1ggy10 »

Hi

I wonder if anyone can advise me.

I recently took out medical insurance with a Thai company on a recommendation .and paid the yearly subscription in cash in advance .but after a couple of weeks I have been told that the insurance cannot go ahead because I have not been in the country long enough .So they have sent me a cheque back . I do not have or need a Thai bank account and wonder if anyone knows if any bank will cash the cheque for me .

Thanks

No harm in opening a bank account. If fact I would say that if you so intended on staying for the amount of time that taking insurance out suggests, then a Thai bank account will come in useful for a number of reasons during your extended stay.

You'll need an account to deposit a foreign check, it costs 150 baht and takes 3 weeks to clear. Local currency checks cost nothing and take 3 days.

I understand that this is not a foreign cheque but a Thai one. In that case you should be able to endorse it to someone with a bank account and they could cash it for you. I've done this a couple of times for someone else and had no problems.
