Can You Notice The Difference in Different Bottled Waters?

Post by GLCQuantum »

Strange one this, which I just remembered.

A few days ago, I was on me way to the shops so asked people nearby if they wanted anything. A few requests were given along with 'a bottle of water'.

Comes back and hand out goodies, only to be told that it was the wrong bottle of water - she wanted Nestle apparently. No drama of course (I told her she'll have to go without then and I'll take this bottle) and that was that.

For me, I couldn't tell you the difference between the finest spring water to English tap water - it's water! You know... that flavourless liquid that we have to drink!

How about you. For me, complaining about the type of water you are drinking is the game of snobs. That's not what this thread is about though ...just wondering if you could tell 'fine' water from tap water... Singha water from Nestle water.

BRANDING. --- you are what you buy, you are what you wear, you are what you drive.
Of course it all tastes the same, probably from the same tap, but when she carries it, it says, to her at least, - I'm special.

I would like to say water is water but I do prefer certain brands in Thailand for what I consider better cleaner taste. I think the real kicker is let any of the brands of Thai water get warm and taste. So far uck is my general comment on any when warm.
One word is not a story but it is the beginning and end of one.

Well Perrier's got a bit of a fizz but apart from that they seem all the same to me though. Can't agree about U.K. tap water tasting or smelling the same. It seems to me that more and more chemicals are being added to it these days. Best to add a wee dash of bottled water to a dram.

"Sprinkle" bottled water may be the best water I've tasted anywhere. Unfortunately it's hard to find outside of Bangkok. I think the stuff would win a blind taste test without exception. Pete

Only Evian has a discernible difference for me - just seems to be crisper and more pure on the tastebuds

had a friend many moons ago who made a packet selling bottled spring water from his land in Hampshire. Eventually the authorities moved in and insisted on chemical additions

I voted no, but only because I don't touch the stuff other than for tea or coffee and for cooking. THe last time a water thread popped up on here, I gave people the benefit of the doubt and drank a few glasses per day for a few days, and it made bugger all difference. Since then, not a single glass of water has passed my lips. It's either coffee or beer, and sometimes a little bit of wine.

I honest find it difficult to eat or drink something which has no taste. No doubt I will pay for my evil ways, but it's been a good innings. :thumb:

Takiap... I'm with you 100% there. Currently, I only drink water on its own if there's nothing else close by. I generally have a coffee in the morning, a litre or two of flavoured drinks during work hours, 1-2 beers in the evening and chocolate/strawberry milk with a nice roll up before settling in bed.

It's not exactly a nice drink, is it (though it can be if you've been lugging 80 kids around scout camp in the searing heat and all that was on offer was some flower flavoured drinks  ... man that water tastes good when you get back to civilization)... it's just a necessity.
