Best place to buy DVDs?
Best place to buy DVDs?
Now that the girl on the 2nd floor of Market Village packed up her booth and left, I find myself looking for a place to buy good quality DVD's. I still use the guy outside the old Hua Hin Shopping Mall, but he doesn't have the selection she did. Besides movies I'm particularly looking for some TV series whole seasons or whole series in original English soundtrack with good Thai subtitles. Most of the ones I'm looking for have been shown here on TrueVisions with Thai subtitles (like "The Wire", "Deadwood", "House of Cards", "Secret State", "Hell on Wheels") and so should be available at some local outlet.
Any suggestions?

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

^ & ^^Thanks to both of you,
I'll try Grand Market. I didn't think about it because I rarely go out at night.
As for Market Town, I only walked down the center aisle once since it opened, Is there a particular shop or location in that large basement that you would recommend?
Finally, have you guys actually seen any place in either of those that have sets of TV series or are those just suggestions of possible places to look?
Thanks again?

At Market Town there is a guy selling dvds and blu-ray. Looks like copies but I could be wrong. I didn't notice if he had series but would think so. It's a small shop at the back towardsnthe bike parking in the basement on the right hand side looking towards Market Village from the main entrance.

Why don't you just download then burn discs or use a USB stick into your player? Much easier and cheaper.

Re: Best place to buy DVDs?
I haven't had much luck downloading here with my 3BB connection (takes many tries because of "connection reset" messages) and finding sources that aren't full of viruses has been iffy. Just yesterday, I tried to watch a streaming program on Couch Tuner, but it stopped every few seconds with some sort of "connection reset" message.
Also, I want Thai subtitles for my wife. Sure, she speaks and reads English, but I've noticed that she understands shows better (asks me less questions causing me to have to pause to answer!
) if there are good Thai subtitles. I know there are sites like subtitleseeker where you can "build" a DVD by combining a downloaded show with downloaded subtitles, but it all just sounds like too much hassle to me. Admittedly, I've never tried the subtitle thing so it may be easier than I think with some research.
Anyway, with the low prices here I'd rather just go buy the DVDs and be done with it. If I can't find them, downloading and trying to install subtitles will be a last resort (I spend way too much time staring into this 17" monitor as it is), but as I said, most of these shows were shown on TrueVisions in Thailand with good Thai subs so I would think they would be available for purchase somewhere.

Never tried the subtitle thing but there are people posting on the torrent site telling you where to find them.
I use Vuze 700 Bt a year if you want to burn DVD free if you don't. kickass.to links straight in and with my pathetic TOT internet a good quality movie takes between 30 mins- 2 hours then I either put them on a stick and plug it into the custard or bang the headphones in my lugholes and watch it on the iMac Whilst the missus watches volleyball and various soaps after dinner. The site has a good information and rating system so you don't waste time downloading just to find out it is a dodgy cam version with hardcoded Lithuanian subs.

Downloads? Use Pirate Bay and isoHunt. Never any problems in getting good quality stuff.
Subtitles? I use Subscene.com
Never any problems in getting good copies after Sandman posted some advice a while back on selection criteria. It'll be on here somewhere

Re: Best place to buy DVDs?
Found the DVD shop mentioned by a couple of people above in the back right of Market Town. Good selection, quality, and pricing. She had lots of TV series but not the ones I was interested in finding. Good quality late release movies 3 for 200b!
Still looking for "The Wire", "Deadwood", "Hell on Wheels", and "Secret State" in case anyone runs across them anywhere.

I feel your pain man!!hhfarang wrote:Also, I want Thai subtitles for my wife. Sure, she speaks and reads English, but I've noticed that she understands shows better (asks me less questions causing me to have to pause to answer!) if there are good Thai subtitles.
I've always picked up a couple of things when passing through Singapore or KL as most DVD's and Blurays there have Thai subs too. Finding them in Thailand though has always proved to be hard. Perhaps its that its not easy to keep a shop selling genuine DVD's and Blurays in profit here!!
