Using Thai credit/debit cards abroad
Have others had this experience. I have a Thai Debit card (TMB) and in Thai it works well, but it is very unreliable when abroad.
Re: thai credit/debit cards
I've had a Thai debit card from the Bangkok Bank for many years. I had no trouble in Malaysia and Singapore (except for a couple of hotels who, on trying, it was rejected!!). I've even used it in the UK with no problem. In fact, the withdrawal limit per day is several times the debit card from my UK bank.
If I remember correctly, I had to stipulate that I was going to use it abroad otherwise I would get a local debit card which can't be used abroad. Maybe that's the problem.

Have a Kasikorn Visa debit card which worked in Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines no problem, it wouldn't work in Indonesia so used the SCB Cirrus one there instead.

I have a Debit VISA card with my Kasikorn account. I don’t use it often, as I only have the account as a place to deposit my Per Diem. On the few occasions, I have used it, it has been mainly overseas and because I use it sparingly, I always think there is going to be a problem, but so far no.

I have a Thai ATM debit card, it works fine in Thailand but when I tired using it at an ATM machine in the U.S. it was rejected.
Re: Using Thai credit/debit cards abroad
As far as I know, there are two types of ATM card issued by the banks. One is for use in Thailand only and the other is more of a debit card and can be used to pay for goods and draw cash abroad. The card usually has a VISA sign or the like.

I've had no problems using my Kasikorn bank 'K-Max Debit Card' with Visa logo in Bosnia, Croatia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Montenegro, Singapore, Serbia, Slovenia and Vietnam. Well, almost no problems. In both Japan and Malaysia one of the major ATM networks consistently rejected my card. IIRC, those networks existed only in their country.
