Is it safe to go without reservation around the holidays?

Post by ihtiandr »

Planing to go for 2 months: from Mid November til mid January. Possibly will extent to February. I guess it'll be no problem for November and part of December, however a bit nervous that Christmas and New Year are fully booked and I'd end up either in something super expensive or in a dump, that no one wants. Please advise. I am on a budget and therefore looking for something modest, in the area of 300-400 Bahts per day and don't need anything fancy however a minimum of civilisation is required: air conditioner, TV, toilet and shower in the room. I don't want to rent any mode of transportation so everything within walking distance is highly desirable: beach, shops, restaurants, Internet cafes. If it is away from noise - even better, I am looking for a quite place. I am pretty open minded about what this accommodation is: hotel, motel, condo, guest house or a private room as long as it fits my description and criteria.
I'd appreciate any suggestions/recommendations that you might have.
Thanks in a advance!

Think you'll be looking around 800 minimum for something remotely decent in late December and New year and would certainly advise booking now for that part of your stay.
I am in the process of booking now and am expecting to pay 1200 - 1500 Baht for half decent accomodation around that time.

300-400 baht a day, you may find it easier, to bring a tent with you. Air con, TV and a shower, I know it is cheap here, but I think you are probably 20 yrs behind the times, perhaps you should try Vietnam.
Good Luck

I realize that it is not going to be on a shore, however don't mind walking 10-15 minuts.

Take away the aircon and loo/shower in the room and you're getting warmer in every sense of the word!

I think you might have to review your plans or comfort levels that you are seeking.

Good luck - its great.

Doubt they'll have anything available over the Jan period but Sport Villa should have something for the first part of your stay - around 8-10k per month, which is within your budget. Decent rooms and facilities for the price. Sorry, don't have a contact number. Maybe someone can assist.

You should definitely contact the places that sponsor this site as linked in BaaBaa's post, but failing that you could also try the Amara Inn, which is in a pretty reasonable location and has everything you specify. Not sure what their current rates are but I think in your range.

There is also Baan Hua Hin, next door, I think their rates are quite a bit cheaper.

With your budget, I recommend a well run guest house.

One of those Parasols on the beach may come in handy if everywhere is fully booked, you may have to dodge the piles of horsesiht though. :)
