My Black & Decker pressure washer gun gave up on me today. The trigger became sort of spongy, and there was more water pouring over my hand than coming out of the nozzle cleaning cleaning the floor. Are these things economically repairable, or is it just a case of bin it, and buy a new one?

Should`nt buy Black & Decker in the first place!
If it is just leaking around the trigger it may be something as simple as an "O" ring that has blown.

As an aside: what happened to the one Sarge had? That was a good unit.

Regarding Black & Decker, I've still got some Black & Decker power tools that I bought early 80s - still working fine. This is the first Black & Decker tool that's ever let me down. Have I been lucky, or have standards dropped?

First step BB would to take the handle apart and see what can be seen. If you don't want to tinker I would think some Thai guy neighbor would give it a go. Pete

A 2 year old has more practical ability than me. I'll have to think of a clever Thai - not meant to be detrimental to Thais, but I'm struggling to think of one at the moment.

Regarding Black & Decker, I've still got some Black & Decker power tools that I bought early 80s - still working fine. This is the first Black & Decker tool that's ever let me down. Have I been lucky, or have standards dropped?

In my opinion, the quality has dropped. In the 70's and 80's I think Black & Decker was a brand very suited for private use such as renovations and non professional woodworking. Today it seems it's more about a modern look than long lasting quality.

I'm a member in a Swedish forum about home building and renovations. Many there use the nickname "Slapp & Läcker" for "Black & Decker". In English that would be something like "Sagging & Leaking"...

I agree with the posters who said Black & Decker used to be a good quality brand (40 years ago). Everything I bought with that brand name in the last 20 years has been crap that didn't last long... probably moved their manufacturing to China a few decades ago.

I've tried all the 'clever' Thais that I know, but they're all afraid of it.

I was in Market Village, so I enquired about a new gun attachment - even if they could get one, the hose fittings are completely different.

Out of desperation, I managed to dismantle the gun myself (this is hell of an achievement for somebody with my technical ability). Everything seems to be in order, and as far as I can see, it just needs a new 'o' seal. Unfortunately, I've no idea where to buy an 'o' seal, and even if I did, I wouldn't have a clue what size. I even managed to put the gun back together. Thinking my manipulation might have solved the problem, I gave it a quick go, but only managed to fill my shoe again.

Anybody know where to buy 'o' seals please?

^ I'm sure someone will come back with places to buy O rings/seals, but if all else fails, use silicone sealant - which I'm sure is in plentiful supply and easy to find.

I would google for something like "Pressure Washer Gun black decker XXX" where XXX is your model. If you are lucky you may find documentation and a spare part list. If you are really lucky even the size of the o-ring will be documented.

I would try to ask in a garage or "mechanical shop". Unfortunately I don't have better knowledge of a special place. If you bring the old o-ring, they should be able to measure it and provide a similar one.
