I was chatting earlier today with buksida about forum names and somehow the discussion turned to pub names. I think my all time favourite is 'The Frog and Nightgown' which I had only ever seen in South London (on the Old Kent Road), but a quick Google reveals that they are all over the world! In addition what names can anyone think of that could be appropriate in Thailand? I thought of 'The Farang and Firkin'....
If I went into the bar business it would be called 'Dicks Inn'
RICHARD OF LOXLEY
It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
Maybe I'm becoming hyper-critical in my old age but there seem to be far too many bars, even in Hua Hin, that could well be named
"The Dog and Deadbeat".
Inspired by prcscct, here are a few more...
The Hansum Man
The Spit and Swallow (new name for Lolitas)
The Lady Dink Inn
The Padded Bill
The Humming Hawng Nam
The Laughing Ladyboy
th txtspk tvrn (The Textspeak Tavern)
The Ringtone and Recharger
The Rozzers' Ransom
The Socks With Shorts Saloon
I like the "Leg of Mutton and Cauliflower" not far from me in Ashtead, Surrey. The Maltese Cat was another name I liked, a Youngs pub, now gone, named after a polo horse (honest) from a book by Kipling.
Given these unique names I suggest that some of the bars really should change their names to a more appropriate one. Wnderlust and Guess are right on the button.
Maybe a survey could be done. If I was there I would take the job on and ask them if they wouldn't prefer a change in name.
