The military has told the Immigration Bureau to be flexible with "visa runners", junta chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha said Friday.
The runners can register with the bureau, which will find a sustainable resolution to the problem, he said in his weekly televised programme last night.

Sounds like a sting. Visa runners identify themselves, then immigration adds 2 stamps to their passport: one gives them a few days to get out of the country, the other says you can't return.Big Boy wrote:The runners can register with the bureau, which will find a sustainable resolution to the problem, ...

Personally I can't see why they would need to carry out a sting operation since they can just deny you entry anyway.
I think the general has so far proven to be a very decisive guy who, it would seem, appears to be genuinely eager to clean things up and get things working properly for the sake of the whole country.
Maybe, just maybe, he realizes the importance of having English teachers here, and he realizes that there are many schools that simply don't have the budget to operated within the current system. For such schools, visa running teachers are their only hope of getting English into the classrooms.
It would certainly be nice to see the authorities come up with a suitable solution for both teachers and schools.
Hopefully at some point they'll also try to eradicate sexual discrimination concerning visa applicants.

Exactly - he's identified the problem, so why be lenient? Why not develop some workable rules that can be operated properly?Takiap wrote:It would certainly be nice to see the authorities come up with a suitable solution for both teachers and schools.
