Daoist Shrine

So what is going on around here and where does it happen? This section is for discussion on local events, festivals, and holidays as well as activities and things to do.

Daoist Shrine

Post by dvolante9 »

So this may be a long shot but I need to find a Daoist shrine for my other half. She is from China and wants to buy one for the house but we don't know where to even begin to look for one. Does anybody know where I could possibly find one or a place that makes them? We are looking for one that is the size you usually see in local shops (only about 2 feet tall and about 2 feet wide) any help is appreciated! :D

Also it can be a confucian shrine but it can't be a Buddhist shrine. Thanks in advance for any help!

I'll start you off with some reading. I think your best bet will be in Chinatown in Bangkok. It is a vast place and if one is to be found, it will be there somewhere. Pete

Thanks for that! I had no idea Chinatown was so big. I will have to go there then and take a look around and see what they have. Just out of curiosity do a lot of the people there still speak dialect (hokkien teochew Hakka Cantonese) as there first language and thai as their second?

^ I don't know. I do know many Thais of Chinese decent know some dialect of Chinese, but how fluent and which one I don't know. Have your wife try it out when you get to Chinatown. I'm sure she'll find someone she can communicate with. That would really be helpful as surely they can then direct her to where to buy the shrine. Good luck! Pete

What religion is the "Chinese Temple" that overlooks the beach behind the Hilton? Perhaps they can help you out even if they're not Daoist, certainly it seems to be an active temple of a Chinese religion.

@bamboo grove I see, and @steve the temple here is a mix of folk deities and Buddhism but I will check there and see if they know.
