Tourists may be required to pay entrance fee for visiting Koh Tao

A meeting of tourism operators and local residents of Koh Tao in Surat Thani resolved during a meeting Thursday to collect an entrance fee from visiting tourists.

They plan to use the fee for setting up a fund to boost security for tourists on the island. The meeting resolved to have the Koh Tao Municipality hold a public hearing on the fee rate.

So now the tourists may have to pay to be safer :banghead: I question where pocket the cash will end up.

I'm sure there will be a statement soon from the Bangkok bosses squashing this one too. 15 months until elections? They need 15 years, at least. :banghead: Pete

Everybody pays to enter Phi Phi for keeping the Island clean, so it should work. However, with the best will in the world, you'll never stop some crazed idiot committing atrocities.

So basically the squatters want you to pay an entrance fee or protection money to come and enjoy the island.

I think we will pass on that one. :banghead:

I'm pretty sure the Phi Phi islands have national park status, just like Koh Samet over where I am. The fee is the park entrance fee IMO. Pete

Personally, I'm amused by all the posts on this thread, and especially the posts left by those who have lived here for some time. Just let it be.

To explain would be politically incorrect. :duck:
