I have spent many years going to Phi Phi and seeing these crazy boat operators running between Phuket and the islands... They drive these overcrowded speedboats like there is no tomorrow... Sad that these unknowing tourist trust their life's to these careless losers... I feel sorry for these folks, for the terror that must have swept through them as this all happened many wouldn't have any clue as they are packed in tight... Just a waste!!!

Reading that article accident happened at four PM and alarm raised an hour later so that means an hour less daylight to search for the missing.

Tourists need to wake up to the fact that there are no safety laws that are adhered to (or enforced pro-actively) anywhere in Thailand once you get off the plane that brings you here. They wait for the accident to happen and then clear up the mess before carrying on as before....it'll soon be forgotten as it's such a frequent happening.

It'll be the usual case of of some yee-haa local with no license, no experience, no knowledge of tides in the area (or wave dynamics - "Ehhh! What's that?" says the "Captain" which is a very generous term for him to say the least), probably rents the boat as (what he thinks is) a great business idea by-the-day from some rich tosser, no clue about safety and just trying to wow the stupid tourists that think this is a perfectly safe "activity" to do whilst here on their 2 weeks holiday............what could go wrong?

Anyone for a minibus to Bangkok?

Nothing ever changes here. Knee jerk then ? a few months on. Once again they penalize the public (read passengers) by making them sit in a seat for hours wearing a life vest, rather then assuring the craft and crew are fit and proper. This rule seems to apply to all vessels, even the 200 passenger ferries that take hours to transverse? When are they EVER going to look inwards to discover and fix the cause?
