If you're an early riser, or maybe something to look at on the way home if you're a night bird.
Between 06:30 and 07:30 on 9 Nov 14 there will be an International Alms Offering to 111 Monks on Hua Hin Beach.
This is sure to be a very colourful, photogenic event.

We look forward to your pictures BB.

What can I say? I've never had such a laugh in a long time.
We all woke up at 5am, and got to the beach by 6am. This was a special event as it coincided with my son's birthday.
When we arrived, all of the lanterns from the previous evening had been cleared away, and 3 very long tarpaulins had been laid out for the expected congregation. At the end nearest the Buddha image, there were 2 rows of picnic hampers, which seemed to represent offerings from local businesses, and were basically reserving places for the 'big' sponsors.
My family sat on the 3rd tarpaulin from the sea, which I thought strange, because my wife normally pushes to the front of any event. I went for a wander - I don't do sitting on the beach. The nice helper ladies offered me a plastic chair, but I don't do those either, and opted to stand.
I'm not sure how powerful they were expecting the Lord Buddha to be today, but high tide wasn't due until about 7:30. The beach was set out at 6. A recipe for disaster if ever there was one. The 2 front rows of tarpaulins were soon under water, and they had to bring in Wang Rescue to form a human/tarpaulin wall to try to keep the original 3rd row dry - like something out of a keystone cops movie.
Eventually, the monks came for their offerings, and Mrs BB who had opted for the back row, miraculously found herself in the front row - obviously a method in her madness.
I enjoyed the event, but not really my thing. I would only do it again for another special occasion.
Here are a few photos from this morning. Probably a good indicator is the stall selling offerings early on, and then the same stall later on, half under water.
