Winter Clothing

Post by Big Boy »

There's a bit of a family emergency, and I might have to nip back to the UK for a week or 2 (November/December). I've been walking Hua Hin's streets in search of large size winter clothing - just in case. Just window shopping at this point. OK, I wasn't hopeful, but I was surprised that I couldn't even find small sized winter clothing.

I tried all the likely places that sell large clothing, but nothing whatsoever that would offer any protection against the UK winter. Does anybody have any suggestions where they might sell some?

I do have a plan B if I can't find any. I would order online, and have it delivered to a UK address, where I'd pick it up.

All being well, I won't need to return to the UK at all - that's what I'm hoping.

There are a few places at Mega Mall, Bangna that sell winter thermal coats and all kinds of winter gear, but unsure if in your size. I'll try to post the name of the shop(s) when the wife gets home around supper time. Pete

The last time I was there, that outlet mall on the left on the way to Cha Am had outdoor clothing in the large sports store at the back, I think North Face and a couple of other brands. It's the only winter clothing I've seen anywhere in the area.

Thank you, but it's OK Pete. If I go, it will be very quick, and no time for Bangkok. Strangely enough, I know exactly where I can get the stuff on your side of the water. I thought I knew where to go here, but absolutely nothing. I'd have thought warm clothing would be in plentiful supply ready for High Season, but I was wrong.

Thanks Steve, I've sung their virtues a few times on this forum, yet when I need them, I'd forgotten. Just need to wait to see if I've got t make the unthinkable journey now.

I dont know about sizes but UNIQLO in BKK has winter clothing. Its for the Hi-sos who go skiing in the winter--but quite expensive, no sorry, thats not true, very expensive.
Just buy long johns and thermal vest, they are available, wear them under your track suit and that will get you home, Heathrow is quite well heated, and you can shop in UK.

When I went back to the UK (5 years ago) in December, I bought one of those big padded jackets in one of the open clothes shops (the type that just has rails in one of the open spaces) in Market Village. I think I paid just over 1,000 baht and it kept me warm through the winter. I noticed that in the UK they were over 100 quid for similar.

This is very good advice, well worth a look and prices very competitive. Looking at the 2 buildings from the road, the left side has their OUTLET sales

Thank you all very much for your help and advice. Thankfully, I don't need to travel to the UK - crisis averted. :D
