Burglar Alarms
Burglar Alarms
Anyone recommend a burglar alarm seller/fitter ?
Niggle'
we rented a house with a burglar alarm in it. It was a real pain in the butt as it would go off for no reason at all. What was interesting is not once did anyone check to see what was happening.
It even went off a couple of times when no one was there and made a racket for hours that everyone ignored.
If you do a burglar alarm you will have to do something inventive for anyone to pay any attention. Maybe flashing lights outside? Turn on a recording of barking dogs, mean sounding ones.
Just a suggestion.

There are systems available in Hua Hin/Thailand that as well as an audible alarm, will telephone to mobile phones (and I assume land lines too) to alert that the alarm has been triggered - there is a chap with a stand outside HomePro towards the lifts that sells these (as well as automatic gates, satellite TV dishes/systems and other stuff), but they are available elsewhere too (mainly Bangkok though). Basic system costs about 20,000 baht but can be added to with extra window/door sensors and various other things. He also does smoke alarms which link into the security system if anyone is interested.
There must be cheaper systems to find in Thailand. I mean most of the stuff is manufactured somewhere in the Far East, and I only pay about SEK 2000Wanderlust wrote:There are systems available in Hua Hin/Thailand that as well as an audible alarm, will telephone to mobile phones (and I assume land lines too) to alert that the alarm has been triggered - there is a chap with a stand outside HomePro towards the lifts that sells these (as well as automatic gates, satellite TV dishes/systems and other stuff), but they are available elsewhere too (mainly Bangkok though). (THB 10.000) here in Sweden for a basic pack including all the wiring, nuts and bolts. Extra components (sensors, firealarm, magnetic contacts, siren, etc....) about THB 2000/pc.
Same prices for wireless systems.
Yes Bjarne you are logically right, but it's not cheap here at all. It's a market supply and demand issue again.bjarne wrote: There must be cheaper systems to find in Thailand. I mean most of the stuff is manufactured somewhere in the Far East, and I only pay about SEK 2000

After finding the prices ridiculously high in Thailand, I went on to Ebay and got a complete wireless home alarm set - 5 Motion Detectors, 5 Door/Window switches, 1 External Siren with Flash light (out-side use), 1 Smoke detector, Main Control Panel, 2 remote controls.
All for 5,000 THB. The company was based in Honk Kong, it took them 3 days to ship another 3 days to come to Phuket. In the customs they charged me 623 Baht duty to clear the box.
After that it took 10 minutes to set it all up and operational in the house.
When I've asked about a singe unit of motion detector prices in Phuket they were asking 6000 THB (20$ normally) a piece. Then I went back and asked about a similar set like I bought for 5,000 THB they wanted between 22,000 - 36,000 THB.

You need a burglary system to protect you from these guys though!

The model I have ordered didn't have that, but they stock the ones you are asking for another 2,000.
The reason I didn't order that one was, I can't imagine it calling the police station and the MIBs listening to a tape record and understanding the urgency and attending to it
Or in other cases it can also to be setup to call your mobile which is the main reason you are asking I believe. But by time I got back it could be late.
Instead I have told my next door neighbours about the system and they bought themselves the same sets, now the whole soi knows. If an alarm system goes off they are all on the street to check.
One important tip, make sure you order from an Asian Manufacturer, because of the ASEAN agreements shipping and custom duties are much cheaper.

Any new ideas in the last 7 years. I know you can buy alarm systems somewhere in Hua Hin but I can't find it.

Superjoe, not such a regular poster these days, installed one for me a couple of years ago. Not sure if he`s still in that line of business.
Re: Burglar Alarms
The problem with most of these alarm systems is that the geckoes do set these alarms off. When they do go off no one seems bothered!
A few of my neighbours have used Smart Alarms - all happy but 20K Plus!
I had one from Super Joe which has lasted years but I dont think he does them anymore?
Send him a PM.
Also Plenty of choice on E bay. Yes agree systems from Hong Kong & China are cheap and seem Ok!

If you stand next to the electricity office on the 3rd floor of Market Village and look towards the sea, there been one of those annoying electric signs advertising alarms there for years. I assume the sign is on top/outside of the office.m_right wrote:I know you can buy alarm systems somewhere in Hua Hin but I can't find it.
No idea if they're any good.
