Police clampdown on Hua Hin bars with big screen TV

I've heard from more than three reliable sources that MIB were out and about down Binta and soi 80 demanding fines of 20 to 30k in fines on at least 15 bars showing football on big screen TV's. So much for attracting tourism

My friend in soi 80 escaped the raid as his restaurant was shut

Sordid business exploiting players of limited intelligence, little talent and supporters lacking in the ability to discriminate between a silly children's playground game and a proper sport!

If bars were to show motorcycle racing or hurling that would be different!

A few evenings ago Mrs U.S. & myself were passing by the police station on our m/bike & there was a heated discussion going on between bar-owners, mamasans & the MiB in front of the station building..when I asked the Mrs what it was all about she indeed told me that many bars had been hit with a 20-30k fine without any prior warnings of wrong-doing!
One thinks it all about timing (as ever) rule of thumb dictates the bigger bars are the ones with big screens..big bars may be more likely to afford being stung with a fine, & at this stage in the season they should all have funds.
Watch out for any future threads regarding MiB raids/fines due to having the 'wrong' misic licences...again!
You never know..the junta's beach clean up operation may not stop at the sea-wall..??

I have been in HH every year the last 15 years, and I think it's just another word for blackmail.
I usually arrive one of the last days i Feb. and you must be blind if you haven't noticed the MIB activity around
the end and beginning of a month.
Last year at lunchtime I was sitting in a bar a quiet place near a gaybar.In the bar there was a couple of BG's taking care of me with cool tissues and they tried to offer me "massage" upstairs while I was talking together with the owner.
Suddenly 2 MIB stopped their motorbikes, went inside and sat down enjoying a coffee and a coke. Then the owner said to me, look at these policemen, before 5 min. one of them will go to toilet and take a package of TBH I have placed behind the cistern and after that they go. She was exactly rigth. She wouldn't tell me how much in the package but said, it's more than 10K and lesser than 30 K - and it happens everywhere

The MIB got the records from CTH showing who had a private licence and who had a public licence for viewing. The MIB have used this info to extract money. They came into a friend's bar also. He immediately took their photograph and they left as quickly as they came.
My take on this is that if you have a bar and are being hassled needlessly by the police, take a pic and send it to the Prime Minister's office.

I think its around 2000 per month if your screen is under 28"

Anything over 50" attracts a premium payment, also a longer contract.

As far as I know, the contract is with the media supplier who can take you to task if you only have a private license, not the MIB!
