Post by Ratsima »

I'm looking for a shop that sells genuine Victorinox brand "Swiss Army" knives.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Terry. I know that place. I was hoping to avoid a sojourn in Bangkok, but can do.

Thanx.

As for Bangkok: We have now lived in Thailand for ten years. In that time we have never driven in Bangkok without getting horribly lost and wasting many hours.

I was hoping to replace my knife without having to go through that….

From Hua Hin / Cha Am "K" Village is very easy to access, no need to go any further into Bangkok. :thumb:

Try this tactic. Drive to BKK, look on the map for a skytrain station this side if the river. Park there, take the sky rain into town, change at SIAM for the Sukhumvit line. Takes you right to Central and to walking distance to K Village and most other places you may want to go.

OK. I think the problem is that neither of us know Bangkok well and find it rather intimidating.

I like the idea of just parking and grabbing the Skytrain

Did you see the story recently about a western couple who were stopped in BKK in their car at a checkpoint? Cops found a Swiss army knife in the glove compartment.
They got in a load of trouble. Hauled into the cop shop and fined for having an offensive weapon although they stressed that the knife was only in the car to use as a tool - screwdrivers etc.
Caused quite a stink that did so be careful where you have the knife.
Sorry to digress.

While the idea is sound enough, "K" Village is no where near any BTS or MRT station, and definetly not within walking distance.

If you want to do something like that it would be better to cross the river on Rama 9 bridge from Hwy 4, follow the road signs towards Bang Na, get off the Expressway at the exit to Sukhumvit 62, turn left into Sukumvit and drive a couple of Kms to Tesco on the right at Sukhumvit 50, which is connected to On Nut BTS station.

For the return you would have to drive about 1/2 Km on the same side of Sukumvit, do a U turn under the Phrakanong Klong bridge, and just retrace the way you came from back onto the expressway at Soi 62. :thumb:

I tried to buy from Lazada a week or so ago. They are out of stock. I'm waiting for email notification that they have them again. Hummel also has, but the price is about double the U.S. price.

Nereus, the even and odd numbered sois are not opposite each other - I lived in soi 77 (almost 25 years ago) and that is practically opposite soi 50. Can get very disorientated. The traffic was bad then, just as bad now, something that I would not want to do if I am unfamiliar with Bangkok. It is also something I still would prefer not to do even though I am familiar with it, so I understand his hesitation.

Well, I have only lived here since 1988, the first year in Sukhumvit 79, the following 10 years in Sukumvit 97/1, so I have probably noticed that!
