Re: Big Fire At/Near Energy Project
I was eating at a restaurant nearby when it started, could see some of the flames and smoke from where we were eating. I arrived at the restaurant about 7pm, it started not long after.
Think it's the workers camp for the Energy project, it's like a small town in itself, extremely densely populated area.... fingers crossed they're ok....

Reading the reports, confirmed as the worker's camp for the Energy development. At least 100 buildings/huts destroyed. There were chaotic scenes as the residents tried to escape. Have to wait until morning for investigation into the cause and news on any casualties.

Re: Big Fire At/Near Energy Project
I heard this morning that there was at least one fatality - the details as told were that a boy was left in one of the rooms by his mother (parents) padlocked from the outside - sounds horrific and if true, RIP little one.
Re: Big Fire At/Near Energy Project
We cycled by on our way to breakfast his morning. It was really awful seeing so many people who had lost everything. I hadn't heard there was a fatality.
Of course the place was a mess. Densely populated. Informal wiring. Flammable material everywhere. Open fire cooking.
In the first full-sized photo the guy on the right is sifting through ashes looking for lost possessions. In the third photo residents are congregating around what is left of the community toilet.
The fire affected only a very small part of this workers' camp. Elsewhere, life goes on with tiny restaurants and shops open as usual.
Until next time.

Off topic and maybe not appropriate in view of what happened, but is this place a condo? It looks from the photos like the worst type of densely populated social housing.

Re: Big Fire At/Near Energy Project
It is a low end condo. I think it has the makings of a huge slum. The units are under two million, furnished. No common fee. Most of the units are far from the beach and have no view. The prime real estate is reserved for the "six star hotel"....
Re: Big Fire At/Near Energy Project

I would be worried about gas bottles amongst the debris after that raging inforno.

the fire was in the camp of the construction workers. they live in huge temporary camps while working. they are just like small towns that pop up next to construction projects.
the building the the background that looks like soviet eastern block housing is the unfinished condo project "Energy".
