Hi all
We are looking into getting a retirement visa for Thailand. Went along to the Thai Consulate here to endure I had all the paperwork.
When discussing the THB 800,00 in a bank deposit account I showed him my Siam Commercial Bank book with the amount in it, he said this may not be acceptable!!!!!! He said the deposit had to be in a Thai Government bank (but couldn't give me the name of one) and that SCB and Bangkok bank are private banks not government banks.
Do any of you know about this restriction of where the THB 800,000 should be deposited?
Much appreciate any insight on this curve ball.
Cheers
Margaret

Re: Retirement Visa Bank Account
I have mine in a SCB savings account and have experienced no problems with Immigration extending my retirement visa.
For my original retirement visa application before I came to Thailand I produced an HSBC UK statement to demonstrate sufficient funds.

Many thanks for this Robin. Much appreciated
Re: Retirement Visa Bank Account
yes and Bangkok Bank is no problem also. If you are in Thailand, you just ask the bank for a letter to take to immigration. Very common.
Cost was 300 baht at Bangkok Bank. Make sure you have the funds in the bank for AT LEAST 90 days before going to immigration.
and the account must be a account you can access without any restrictions. Like a simple saving account.
Good luck...

It can be in a term deposit account, just as it is written on the Immigration website, and is how I keep mine without a problem.JamesWest wrote:yes and Bangkok Bank is no problem also. If you are in Thailand, you just ask the bank for a letter to take to immigration. Very common.

Also, I have only ever paid 100 baht for a letter from Bangkok Bank.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
