Art supplies shop ??

Post by utukxul »

Hi!

My first post on this forum will be aaa... question, for or to those people whom live in Hua hin. Are there any art-supplies shops in Hua hin?
And is it expensive?

As we swedish usually say: Thanx on beforehand   :)

Hi utukxul, and welcome to the forum.

That's a tough one as I am no artist, but there are a lot of artists downtown around the Chomsin and Night market road area on the East side of Petchkasem road. they do original oils and water colors and will paint copies of other art or personal photos.

I have no idea where they get their supplies but maybe if you walk around that area and ask them, one of them will be kind enough to tell you (or sell what you need to you at a reasonable price).

Hi and welcome to the forum utukxul...

There is a shop that sells pens, pencils paper and the like in the road that has all the gold shops. I believe its called 'sa song' The shop is near the 'hua hin 70' end. I hope its still there?

I bought some blank business cards in there a while back.

I'm not sure if it will fulfill your needs but must be worth checking out...

Art Supplies Shop??

Hi Utuxul - asking the artists is a good start, but there is one Stationery store in particular I used a lot - and is still there - on Chomsin Road. Its on the little stretch between Srasong and Petkasem. On the same side of the road as the indoor market.
They stock oils, acrylics, canvases etc and a large selection of pineapple papers.
A smaller shop is just around the corner from it on Srasong Road. They probably have a better quality selection of paints/brushes.
For basic and patterned paper and cardstock try the stationer on Naebkerhardt Road. As you head out of town it's on the right just before a small road leading to the Yacht Club, and almost opposite the school. If you pass HuaHin Place Hotel you've gone too far!
Prices for papers/card are far cheaper than in the UK. I can't compare brush/paint prices now. But bought a pack of 50 A4 sheets of patterned card for 85 baht last year, and newsprint size sheets of pineapple paper for 25 to 40 baht.
Most stationers also stock some decorative bits and pieces. Depends what you are wanting to do - but the best I found for decorations is on the left of Chomsin, just over the railway line heading out of town, in the block after the Mall. Again prices are next to nothing compared with England.

Deviating from the topic only slightly  I have a six piece jazz band made up of paper maché figurines approx 75 cm tall. Some of the band got damaged in transit and the whole band could do with new coats and make up. I have been searching for an artisan in HH, BKK or Ubon who could take on this rehabilitation project. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated? Many thanks.Image

A very unusual and quirky little band they are too Malcominthemiddle!
How old are they? And do you know what paint was used?
If they are especially old or rare I'd be very wary about restoration work to be honest. Paint colours fade in time and the white in particular could be difficult to match, as there are so many different white pigments.
But if you want to go ahead I'd start with the local artists in HH. There's one called Pek on the Night Market who is good with dark colours.
I'd only want an artist though who could immediately identify the type of paint and who could show that he uses it himself.

Margaret, many thanks for the referral and advice. I bought the band in Taiwan about 8 years ago from a bar that was closing down. I think they were born in the Philippines. Together with Laurel and Hardy they take it in turns to be each others warm up act.

The most comprehensive stock of art supplies I've seen is at the shop in the Artists' Village out of town on Soi Hua Hin-Huay Mongkol.
