This country has completely the wrong idea about road “accidents”. They need to encourage a higher road toll to help weed out more of the complete imbeciles on the road, thereby giving the rest of us of a better chance of survival.

I have just completed a 3,000 Km trip to and around the north. Some of the antics they get up to would not be believed elsewhere, never mind tolerated.

An idiot not watching where he was going shunted my car, and the car behind me while both stopped to give way to a car turning right. This in the narrow main street of Phrae, with cars parked down both sides, leaving just one lane. He fled the scene, and the fact that I threatened to help him permanently depart this world had nothing to do with it!
When the police caught up with him he claimed that he had to make an urgent delivery, FFS! What is worse, the police accepted his excuse!

He at least did have insurance, and they have told me that they will repair my car.
The carry on at the police station was right out of keystone cops. Nearly two hours hand writing out the 2-page report. Enough photos to fill an album, along with half a can of spray paint marking the spot on the road!

Nobody hurt, so I suppose that is something to be thankful for. Also a good lesson for my granddaughter, whom was in the back seat with a seatbelt on.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Agree with the sentiment, however as your accident indicated, it's often the innocent party that becomes the victim - and that so often means fatalities!!

Thais among Asia-Pacific’s least attentive drivers

"Rather than keeping their eyes on the road, Thais are among the top three "most distracted drivers" in the Asia-Pacific region, behind China and India, according to a recent survey......"

Dozen Chinese hurt in van-pickup crash
Ten Chinese tourists were injured, one of them seriously, after their van collided with a pickup truck and overturned in Doi Saket district on Thursday evening.

The accident occurred on a curve section of the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai Road in tambon Chiang Doi during a downpour.

The Chiang Mai-registered van was travelling with 12 Chinese tourists on board when a pickup truck heading to Chiang Rai veered off the road, spun around and hit the van, causing it to flip on its side.

Ouch!!!! Can you say organ donor... ATGATT (All the gear all the time) or at least an attempt to do so.... I see this everyday and wonder what they expect in the event of an accident??? And with the way they drive their toy bikes around, accidents are just a matter of time.... Sad to see this happen again here....

Rant over.....

Not sure if the person had any protective gear on,but as you say many of them just do not care for life, they continue to cut in front of you, pull out of side streets never even look,i guess they can do what they want, back in my home country i take extra care for motor bikes as i have many friends that ride, but here my god every day i could hit one of them, well if it is night i may not see them as not many have working lights. But if an accident occurs us Farangs will be too blame.

1 killed, 28 hurt in NE bus wreck

One person was killed and 28 others injured when a Khon Kaen-bound tour bus overturned in Maha Sarakham’s Chiang Yuen district on Wednesday.

The air-conditioned bus travelling from Mukdahan hit a road divider, causing it to flip on Kalasin-Khon Kaen Highway 209 in tambon Phon Thong, said Pol Maj Saengphet Artsuphor, an investigator at Chiang Yuen police station. Police were alerted around 7am. The force of the impact threw one passenger out of the bus, killing her instantly. She was identified as Malai Phukhongsod, 57, of Kalasin's Yang Talat district.

Local media reports quoted witnesses as saying that the accident was likely caused by highway police who signalled the trailer truck to pull over within a short distance, forcing the driver to try to stop.
This is an issue I haven't seen highlighted before, but I've often observed (and occasionally been involved in) potentially nasty incidents caused by these haphazard spot checks. No cones, no warning, just a car and a copper waving someone over at the last moment, often stepping into traffic to do so.

This happened to me a few years ago in the Petchaburi area in wet conditions - copper standing by the 'fast' lane picks me out of a reasonably spaced line of traffic, then I get told off for changing lanes safely and pulling over a couple of hundred metres down the road instead of swerving across 2 lanes and stopping instantly. At least the bas***rd had to work for his 200 baht...
This is the way

Judging by the severity of the crash and uprooted trees, then it's also very likely that excessive speed played a part too.

Three Hong Kongers, Thai driver killed in road smash

Post by Geko »

BANGKOK (AFP) - Three Hong Kong women and their Thai driver were killed when a van they were travelling in swerved off a highway and smashed into a tree in central Thailand, police said Monday.

"Four people were killed, they are one Thai driver and three women from Hong Kong," Police Lieutenant Sayumpho Sittikul from Cha Am police station in Petchaburi province, told AFP.

Three more Hong Kongers, including a 4-year-old boy, were injured in the crash which took place at around 5pm on Sunday.

"They are not in a critical condition," Sayumpho said, adding that the victims were heading south to visit a relative’s house in Chumphon province.

Local news pictures of the crash site close to the seaside resort town of Hua Hin showed a silver minivan upturned, its front end caved in.

The bodies of four victims were laid out on stretchers at the scene, their faces covered by white sheets.

Sayumpho said police believed the van swerved to avoid a vehicle ahead of it and careered into a sloping central reservation before striking a tree.

Thailand’s roads are among the world’s deadliest and accidents are common.

A recent report by the World Health Organization said Thailand saw 38.1 road deaths per 100,000 people in 2010 -- behind only the Dominican Republic and the South Pacific island of Niue.
