Parcel senders are required to show ID cards or passports
Starting as of Tuesday June 2, senders of parcels through the Thai post office are required to show their ID cards or passports if they are foreigners otherwise the parcels will not be accepted for delivery.
Mrs Waraporn Chaitiamwong, manager of organizational communications of the Thai Postal Service Company, said that the new measure was a follow-up response to the announcements of the Prime Minister’s Office to stem the use of postal services such as parcels for drugs smuggling.
The announcements make it mandatory for senders of parcels to show their ID cards or passports to officials at the postal counters so their personal information will be recorded.

Excellent ruling? I can appreciate the potential benefits and I can therefore understand the logic behind this ruling, but I also see it as being another step towards becoming a police State; another tiny piece of freedom being taken away.
Yes, I know the State is only doing this because they are concerned about our safety, but personally, I would much prefer being left to look after myself.

I wouldn't object to the ruling, but won't it only work if sender and addressee details are accurately recorded AND all parcels are Xrayed before leaving the PO, OR all parcels are marked with the receiving PO so they can be tracked back if stopped at the port of exit?

It seems we are being monitored more & more..
We had to submit our passports to register our phones.
We have to show our passports at many money exchanges..even to change cash into baht.
We have the MIB wanting to see our passports and details at our homes...and now this.

What I don't understand is why people always look for the negative in everything. There will be a negative everywhere if you look for it. Accept the change as a positive in an attempt to stop criminals using the system.
MIB, Police state - Oh come on this is not the USA
Hey just thought, maybe the Police State want us to lick stamps so they get our DNA

I wonder how often the moaners actually post parcels from Thailand (once a year?) and how much difference showing some ID makes to the process.
Nope, we stayed at home while our wives did it for us. Just like 90-day reporting.usual suspect wrote: We had to submit our passports to register our phones.

I'm 99% sure that you need to produce ID in the UK to purchase a SIM card and know for a fact that you are required to do the same in Singapore.
I really don't see the issue with it. The frustrated you get the happier these people seem to be.
Take is a part of living here. Since all these 'stupid' rules came out 12-18 months ago I have only faced some resistance with the extension of my visa. Which I got in the end.
2 weeks back in your home country and you'll be wishing you were flashing your ID left right and centre back in Thailand (apart from HHF that's is).

I've certainly had to provide photo ID when obtaining local pay-as-you-go SIM cards in numerous countries - of late, Spain, but also other EU countries plus the likes of Australia also. Certainly not an unusual requirement.Henry 14th wrote:I'm 99% sure that you need to produce ID in the UK to purchase a SIM card and know for a fact that you are required to do the same in Singapore.
In China, there was also regular checks of your passports at your home/registered address - again I don't see it as a major issue. I wish the passports and visas of immigrants to the UK were checked on a regular basis...

As has already been said, the first three applies to everyone including Thais.usual suspect wrote:It seems we are being monitored more & more..

The last one was the brainwave of some police colonel in HH and used forms 'invented' at the station. They were certainly not official forms. Anyway, as far as I'm aware this particular person has been educated to the fact that he can't do that. If any police visit your home for no other reason than to check your documents, you should politely tell them to go away and then report them to the immigration police.

It is a practical and sensible rule given the terrible world we live in these days. If you are not a criminal or terrorist what is there to worry about. Thailand is far easier going than most countries, at least here when applying for a visa it is only paperwork, many other countries are total biometric so everything about you can be tracked.
Your in LOS, a country that is so easy going it is sometimes laughable
