Not the one in Scotland. Not the other one either, though it's a heck of a lot closer!

Heck of a 'Boys own story', the picture is actually a fort.

I remember reading of this account many years ago and wondered why they made Mutiny on the Bounty when this mutinous account was easily the better and more sinister tale.

Yes, very much so! Can you remember the details? If you read it when you were a boy, perhaps not... :duck:

Well, as it appears to be around my old stamping grounds, I will go for the remains of what is thought to be the oldest white man stucture in Australia. The wreck of the IOC ship "Batavia" in 1629, and the following mutiny by some of the crew, leading to this stone "memorial", or burial grounds.

Spot on, Nereus, although according to my old mate Wiki, this is actually the 'fort' where the good guys held off the bad guys.

Yes, correct. The "memorial" is on one of the other islands in the group, it has been some time since I was in the area. :thumb:

There has been some recent develpoments in the history of this event, with the recovery of bones and other items.

A new challenge from around the same time. Who was the audacious thief?
He flattened the King’s crown with a mallet and tried to run off with it but was apprehended with it and brought before the King. The King was so impressed with his audacity that, far from punishing him, made him a member of his court with an annual pension. He died in 1680, his body had to be exhumed in order to persuade the public that he was actually dead.

There's a wealth of history in the Social Clubs of Wales.... some true, some not so much!!

In all seriousness, I have had a look at Google and Wiki (after the answer!!) and it is quite a story.... :thumb:

Two more audacious thieves:

1. Vincenzo Peruggia

2. Kempton Bunton

What did they steal and when did they steal it? No googling!!
If you know no. 2 I'll be most impressed...

You're right, they're a bit tricky. I'll let no. 1 stand for now, as it's quite a well known theft and no. 2 gives a bit of a hint.

Kempton Bunton was a retired London bus driver who - apparently - stole a Goya from the National Gallery in 1961. However, read the full story!

One more notorious thief, specially for pharvey.

3. James Mackenzie
