Bringing Back the Banned
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
Yeah so many talk forums have destroyed themselves by banning. It looks like E-dork got whacked for discussing the ‘Paki’ problem in the UK. Anyone listen to the Brits Pat Condell and Martin Willett on this, great stuff, I for some reason love Willett’s accent, classic Brit. Without Youtube you Brits would have no voice on these tendentious topics, yes I know, thank you America - you’re welcome!

Unfortunately your IQ level has let you down a little here 'Deep Blue'. The previous banned posters had built up quite the rapport with posters (200..300..1000 posts) before being controversial to the point of banishment. With this, came good banter as the present company already had a good understanding of said poster before they crossed the line.
You've come in with your 'rootin' tootin' guns a blazin' from the get go. It's like an 'out-of-towner' drunk stumbling into the local 'avin a go at all and sundry.
You come off as a right twat. One with some anger issues to boot. Maybe find a friend... I heard it helps.

Excellent post Arlo.Arlo wrote:Bring back the banned that had more than say 100 posts. That's should weed out the spam-bots.
This forum used to be fun and knowledgeable but now it seems just a place for information for the new guys; like, where is the best place to live? That is followed with the same answers every time which gets pretty boring in my opinion. Yes every now and then some new questions pop up and that's a good thing. I like the sharing of new restaurants and bars but that comes up on my Facebook page everyday from the many Hua Hin groups out there so yes it is nice to read about on here but this is not really the only source anymore.
I don't have the numbers but I would be willing to guess things have slowed down on here quite a bit. I don't mean the same questions asked from a new person and the repeated answers, I am talking about from the regulars on here. This place was once full of opinions and debates that made it interesting and fun, not so much anymore. I have spoken to a couple long time HH expats and they seem to agree. Like I said I don't have the numbers but it sure feels that way to me.
Perhaps the owners like it this way and if that is the case they are free to run it how they want.

Re: Bringing Back the Banned
Super Joe is a personal friend of mine just checked his FB account and the last time he posted on that was 13 Septeber 2014.
Once before he took a year out of the forum then returned. He told me that he had just lost the bug for it not for any other reason. I've sent him a message asking him to come back on here.
Siani is correct that Sandman is writing a book our Richard was still in contact with him before he passed away. I am sure somewhere I have an email address for him I will have a look later.

I joined when the posts were three days between them circa 2002 and drove down from Bangkok just for their first get together. It was quite different then. Many of the regular posters of the time were characters in their own right and were trying to make HH a better place for those who were already here. DrDave (and Oey), Dawn and her dogs, JW, Sarge - to name a few - you've all made the board what it is. Mr Plum always had something to contribute and I do miss his posts - some were controversial but the rest were quite engaging. (Vipassana meditation among others, though I never took him up on the offer). The 'tree house' came and went and the board evolved. I feel privileged to have been a part of it (though contributions few and far between) and can only wish it's continuation in the vein it was conceived in. I'll be around in the background :-)

I have a theory that Deep Blue is a banned former member trying to exact revenge on his tormentors. Nobody in real life could be so crass and ignorant, could they?
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
After reading this articel "Thailand Phuketwan Reporters Face Defamation Charges " seems like there is a good reason why owners and mods are a harsh on what to write and link to.

Re: Bringing Back the Banned
I guess I never got worked up enough to ignore people, or worry about what was said. I'm not an argumentative person, I read different points of view, but have my own beliefs.
In all the posts with Mr Plum and others I don't believe anyone ever changed their minds, just arguments for arguments sake.
Once you get the gist of a thread, it's pretty easy, and quick, to skip over it.
Mostly it seemed the banned got that way by violating the forums T & C's, fair enough, the mods forum, they make the rules and if we don't like them then we can leave, if we break the rules, the owners can boot them out.
In my house one can smoke outdoors, but not indoors, anyone that ignores this rule more than once gets a quick escort to the door and no invitation back.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

Honey, have you been with an Murican? - maybe you need someone with un-posh ‘action’ to rock your world.arcadianagain wrote:I have a theory that Deep Blue is a banned former member trying to exact revenge on his tormentors. Nobody in real life could be so crass and ignorant, could they?

“Crossed the line” - it’s pathetic how the British have become a timid shell of their former selves.
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
Right about (Thailand issues) as Thailand blocked Youtube for a year - totally understandable.bsdk1960 wrote:After reading this articel "Thailand Phuketwan Reporters Face Defamation Charges " seems like there is a good reason why owners and mods are a harsh on what to write and link to.

Exactly my line of thought, I doubt he's even American.arcadianagain wrote:I have a theory that Deep Blue is a banned former member trying to exact revenge on his tormentors. Nobody in real life could be so crass and ignorant, could they?
Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Atheists have no need of a god. Our lives are not based on fear or guilt. We are moral because we know it's right.
