Riddle Me This

Post by Big Boy »

I'm not sure how this will be received, but I've been sent a couple of riddles. I'll post the answers later tomorrow (probably early Monday morning Thai time), together with expalnations.

1. There is a clothing store in Bartlesville. The owner has devised his own method of pricing items. A vest costs $20, socks cost $25, a tie costs $15 and a blouse costs $30. Using the method, how much would a pair of underwear cost?

2. FOUR is HALF of FIVE.
Is this statement True or False?

3. With pointed fangs it sits in wait,
With piercing force its doles out fate,
Over bloodless victims proclaiming its might,
Eternally joining in a single bite.
What am I?

4. Harry Jones was driving home in his car, with his son Robert in the passenger seat. The car was involved in a head-on collision with the truck, killing Harry outright. Robert was seriously injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. In the hospital operating room, his would be surgeon took one look at Robert and said, "I'm sorry, but I can't operate on this patient- he's my son."
What is the explanation?

The only one I'm certain of is 4. The surgeon was his mother.

The others are going to take a bit more thinking about...

Got the clothing one too. I'm not sure if your wording was important which would change the answer, but if not, $45

Not sure about no 2, but if you write four as the romans did, IV,
then it's the half of fIVe.

Apart from the word fang I can agree with Randy but fang can only be used metaphorically surely.

If my logic ties in with Dawn's the lederhausen would be $55.

Is this correct?

And a few more:

What can you fill a bucket with to make it lighter

Two cars were involved in an accident in the center of town. The man who was driving a little green car, had overtaken a big black car. The driver had misjudged the distance between him and the on-coming traffic and had to swerve back in, causing the black car to swerve and crash into a shop window. When the occupants of the cars were examined everyone in the green car was OK, but in the black car was one dead man. However, the driver of the green car was not charged with manslaughter, why was this so?

The big black car was a hearse with a dead body already in it.

By my reasoning, yes. Each letter is worth $5

That's it - 4 out of 4.

The answers as they were given to me:

1. At $5 a letter you'd be charged $45 for underwear

2.It's True. The Roman Numeral FOUR (IV) is in the middle of the word Five: F(IV)E

3.A Stapler

4.The surgeon was Mrs. Jones, Roberts mother.
