annual retirement visa - Currency Conversion Rate
annual retirement visa - Currency Conversion Rate
When I take my annual pension to the immigration office (notarized letter by the British embassy) what exchange rate do they use to determine if I meet the 800,000 baht requirement. Is it a mean average over the year or the current rate!!
Thanks in advance for help

Re: annual retirement visa
The lump sum is 800,000 for 3 months, not 2 and the pension income route is at least 65,000 baht a month, however I can't answer the OP's original question about what rate they use - hopefully somebody will be able to answer.SydneyGuy wrote:i thought you need 800,000 in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months!!

No, another expert in the forum!! Money in the bank OR a pension equivalent to 65,000 per month, I only want to know how they calculate the rate from my pension in the UK to make the total sum in baht
Re: annual retirement visa
The British Embassy will provide a letter confirming your income in GBP. Immigration will convert it.

They use the rate of the day but you don't need any help so ignore that.

Hi Johnf54,
people cant read, I guess...
Hopefully, I can clarify things a bit for you.
I got a certified letter from the German Embassy BKK dated September 8th, 2015
which stated as follows:
QUOTE
The equivalent amount in Thai currency is xxxx Baht subject to fluctuations at the rate
of exchange as of January 1st, 2015

Re: annual retirement visa
The British Embassy is somewhat different. I completed my extension just two months ago and the conversion is done at immigration.
From the British Embassy Website:
Please ensure the pension/income evidence you provide is in a form that is simple and
easy to understand and shows clearly the key financial amounts that are required for
inclusion in the letter. According to Thai Immigration, your pension currency should not be
converted into Thai Baht.
I will add that different immigration offices tend to interpret the rules in different ways.

Re: annual retirement visa - Currency Conversion Rate
In the past, I've asked Imm what exchange rate they've used when calculating my income from the British embassy letter. If, for instance, the rate is 54.5 (as on the right hand side of this page now), they may take it at 54.
There's no hard and fast rule but they should use a rate that is close to the official one.
