The International New York Times says it will cease printing and distributing its print edition in Thailand at the end of the year because of the rising cost of operating in the Southeast Asian country.
The newspaper, known until 2013 as the International Herald Tribune, announced the decision in a letter to subscribers. The move was confirmed Thursday in an email from Charlotte Gordon, its vice president for international marketing.
Gordon said the print edition will still be available in six other Southeast Asian nations.
Thailand’s military government has sought to clamp down on critical media coverage. Asked if the political climate played a part in the decision to cease publication in Thailand, Gordon said the newspaper had no comment beyond what was included in the letter to subscribers.

Not as sad as it would have been a few years ago as it is available on-line but another sign of the isolation of Thai.
Re: IHT to end print edition in Thailand
Yes, it's a pity as the International New York Times is still a good newspaper and I'm a regular reader when I'm in Europe. Online newspapers are fine as long as they still keep the format of print editions but I fear that they're slowly drifting towards being more visually based, with more pictures and moving content, at which point it's a TV program and not a newspaper.

They may as well stop printing it now:
Thai printer removes NYT content, again
The local printer of the International New York Times Thailand edition left blank spaces on Friday's opinion page, the second removal of content from the internationally respected newspaper this week.

The local printer has only been able to continue business for many years because of government loans.
Not that that could have possibly influenced their decision to pull the article
