Bangkok Accidentally Held the World's Longest Half Marathon
http://www.vice.com/read/bangkok-accide ... e=vicefbus
Half-marathons are, as the name implies, half the length of a normal marathon's 26.2 miles. When you are in charge of setting one up, one of your basic duties is making sure that runners run 13.1 miles, which is where organizers in Bangkok screwed up during a race last Sunday.
According to the the National Jogging Association of Thailand, one of the organizers of the Standard Chartered Bangkok marathon, a "technical error"—a.k.a. race officials pointing runners toward the wrong U-turn—inadvertently lengthened the annual race to a total of 17 miles, the Guardian reports.
Runners took to the event's Facebook page to complain about the potentially dangerous miscalculation and to laugh the whole thing off, calling the race "the super half-marathon" or the "not-so-half marathon."
Newsweek says that the president of the Jogging Association has offered to make up for the mistake, telling the race's participants they would receive a specially-made "27.6 km" shirt.

"Australian police are looking to identify a group of men filmed riding motorised park benches on public roads in Perth.
Footage of the nine men casually rolling through an intersection in Scarborough on Sunday has gone viral.
While witnesses said they were amused by the spectacle, police said there were real dangers involved.
They said the men could face several charges, including driving an unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicle.
"Police are concerned for the safety of those riding on the tables with no protective clothing, especially when on roads alongside motor vehicles," Western Australian police said in a Facebook post.
The owner of the table said an officer already spoke to the group and let them off with a warning, according to reports.
"Both drivers were sober, the police asked us to push them back across the road to the beach. We complied with all requests by police on Sunday," he told 9News Perth.
The tables are equipped with a motor and a lever with what appears to be a brake attached. The mechanism for steering the table is not visible in photos or videos."

Brazilian police hunt Santa Claus who stole Sao Paulo helicopter
RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Brazilian police are hunting for a Sao Paulo Santa Claus who kicked off the Christmas shopping season by stealing a helicopter.
The thief rented the aircraft late Friday from an air taxi service at the Campo Marte airport in Sao Paulo for a Black Friday "surprise," the Sao Paulo state security secretariat said on Saturday.
During the flight, the Santa forced the pilot to fly to a small farm outside of Sao Paulo city, where they were met by a third person, the secretariat said.
The pilot was tied up and the two perpetrators flew away.
After several hours, the pilot managed to escape and alert police. There has been no sign of the helicopter, a Robinson model 44, authorities said.

^^ Having visited Tianjin too many times, I believe that the beta testing has been comprehensive, as all of the drivers I have encountered drive by thought control and very little else. Certainly hand-eye-foot control has little to do with the speed or direction in which most vehicles are heading.
I disagree that this would not work in Thailand. Adapt the technology for motorcycles, trucks, Fortunas and long distance busses. I will stay home for a few days and all of the gridlock traffic in Bangkok will be nothing more than a memory
