Earth is a mess, let's re-locate to Mars
Earth is a mess, let's re-locate to Mars
Sound ridiculous doesn't it? But let's think about it.
Once upon a time it was a mission just to move to another country, now we think nothing of it. The first people to move to the 'New World' felt exactly as the name suggests, that they were moving to a new world.
Let's accept defeat, we've messed this earth up beyond repair. I'm all for trying, until the last glimmer of hope has faded, lets keep at it. But privately, those in the know have given up hope. I'm not going to get into the science, just Google it and find out for yourself but most scientists, if you pin them down, will agree that there's no hope. It only occasionally makes the media, don't want to panic people, but bit by bit we are being primed, just keep your eye on 'The Discovery Channel', they'll tell you that it's inevitable. I see they're building a base on the moon as a 'halfway house' for future missions to the red planet. Not very fashionable to accept defeat but why don't America support the Kyoto Protocol, are they just being bastards or are they putting their investment to better means?
Mars can be colonised, its a fact, it'll take time, a lot of money and a loads of hard work and turmoil, but if it's a choice between the earth dying a slow death and taking the Human Race with it or a tough relocation, I think you'll find that Human nature will opt for the latter.
Who will make the final cut? Everyone, the rich, the intelligent, the chosen few, the lottery winners? Could we be so cruel to leave 3rd world nations on a dying planet with no support, or is that natural selection?
Answers on a postcard please.

Not sure theres much chance of any government of a developed country investing billions into space exploration or terraforming technology while primitive religious concepts are still tearing this planet apart.
The space race ended in the early 70's when the two competing nations and any others turned towards defence and military spending instead, this trend has continued until today which is a shame.
Still we can hope, they're on the break through of discovering liquid water on Mars which could lead to more interest in the red planet. No doubt Bush and Thaksin are already buying up chunks of it!

Who is the happier man, he who has braved the storm of life and lived or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed? - Hunter S Thompson
Littlle doubt that we humans have certainly stuffed this Earth up and no doubt we will experience some unpleasant times ahead-even in the next few years.
But to say the Earth is dying is another matter. The Earth will roll on and continue with or without us ,after all Mother Nature runs the show and will ultimately make the big decision for human kind.
Cannot see life on Mars being all that fab , now and into the future. So why go there?
We are most likley to stuff it up too!
Maybe we should all just start doing just a little bit more towards looking after this place.Maybe we can slow things down a bit and take some well made decisions to halt the drift to chaos( for humans).
I do agree that it will be the 3rd world( or more correctly-the 2/3rds of our world) that will suffer the most of all of us, at first that is.
But I can see they will survive even the worser case scenarios. Can you visualise the Wall Street banker with his suitcase of loot and armed to the teeth when all food and water runs out?
I can imagine and would put my bets on the peasants being able to rough it out heaps better than he when in the same situation.
Some pretty radical thinking is going to be needed pretty soon to prevent some serious times tho.Stuff like letting the 2/3 rds make the decisions about the environment .Why not let women run the show for a while rather than us boys? After all, they have been the nurturers or our kind throughout history . It has always been the women folk who collected and planted the seed-- while the men were off throwing spears at each other.

Talking of movin on to Mars which would be a great Iea considering how meseed up our earth pretty darn good. As the revered Buksida said:
"The space race ended in the early 70's when the two competing nations and any others turned towards defence and military spending instead, this trend has continued until today which is a shame." I can only agree with bthat fi all the money that had been put in research of Bombs had been put into sapce research or the research of ways to contain an eco system that would made our world a much more better world to live than the bitter reality we are facing right now!
Global warming, Waring conflicts all over the world, Greed and Profit Hunger of the Big Global Companies, exploiting Global Recouses at an alarming rate ect. and the list of alleged Crimes goes on and on.
Reknowned Science and Physics Professor Stephen Hawking siad: "The human race must move to a planet beyond our Solar System to protect the future of the species," http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6158855.stm and http://news.bbc.co.uk/nolavconsole/ifs_ ... id=6159437
and I believe it will happen some day!
If we would move to Mars I would make sure that 1. Hua Hin is being rebuild in the Xact replica from as it was on Earth but with the diffrence of a Zoning authority that would oversee the devellopment of Housing Projects and other Infrastructure facilities

Excuse me, but who says we'd be welcome on Mars? They say there's no life, but that's judging by our "Earth" criteria. If we've buggered up our own planet, I don't see why we should have the right to bugger up another!

Great post Villa Boy! How about a bit o' Tom Waits?
Earth Died Screaming
Rudy's on the midway
and Jacob's in the hole
the monkey's on the ladder
the devil shovels coal
with crows as big as airplanes
the lion has three heads
and someone will eat the skin that he sheds
and the earth died screaming
the earth died screaming
while I lay dreaming of you
Well hell doesn't want you
and heaven is full
bring me some water
put it in this skull
I walk between the raindrops
wait in bug house square
and the army ants
they leave nothin' but the bones
and the earth died screaming while I lay dreaming of you
There was thunder there was lightning
then the stars went out and the moon fell from the sky
it rained mackerel it rained trout
and the great day of wrath has come
and here's mud in your big red eye
the poker's in the fire and the locusts take the sky
and the earth died screaming while I lay dreaming of you

There was an article about 8 months ago in the Bangkok post about a Thai politician who claimed to have lived on Mars for many years and he has claimed it on behalf of Thailand! So you already need a special M (mars) type visa to go there and you can only rent 1 rai of martian landscape for 30 years before you have to give it to a Thai bar girl, unless you are Thai of course. There are hundreds of Thai security guards up there sleeping as we speak.

And, of course, if you want to build your own house. The one year the Thai builder quotes you, might just be achievable with 669 days in a Martian year.Randy Cornhole wrote:There was an article about 8 months ago in the Bangkok post about a Thai politician who claimed to have lived on Mars for many years and he has claimed it on behalf of Thailand!
