A BRIT tourist died from alcohol poisoning just one day into his holiday to Thailand after downing FOUR BUCKETS of vodka and Red Bull, an inquest has heard.
Father-of-one Peter Nicholson, 29, was found dead in his Bangkok hotel by friends after they tried to wake up him.
Tests found that his blood alcohol level was more than four times the legal UK driving limit.
The engineer, from Wigan, began a 36-hour boozing session before he even left the UK, downing his first pint at Manchester Airport and sinking lager and Jack Daniels and coke during the flight, via Qatar, to Thailand.
After a short sightseeing tour of the Thai capital — which he had visited just weeks earlier — Nicholson then finished 20 bottles of strong lager, shots of sambuca and four buckets of the energy drink with vodka.
His friend, Daniel Wilson, who found Peter's body, told the inquest: "I didn't want to believe what was happening. It was really cold in the room as the air con was on really low.
"I tickled Peter's feet to try and get his attention but his feet were really cold. He just looked asleep."
A post-mortem revealed Peter had 341 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 mililitres of blood. The legal driving limit of 80mg.
Coroner Alison Mutch said she believed the stimulants in the Red Bull may have masked just how drunk Peter was in a condition described as "wide-eyed drunk".
His distraught sister Joanne, 31, paid tribute to her "father-figure" brother and said: "He was very outgoing and almost a father-figure to me, even though I'm older. He was a brilliant dad.
"He loved Thailand and even had his own little sort-of family over there and they all loved him. He used to go there whenever he got a chance to get away.
"Drinking is what people do when they go away, you just don't expect anything like this. We all think twice now."
Peter's devastated mum Irene added: "He was a hard-working lad and very popular. He kept himself fit and would run regularly. He enjoyed going on holidays and had been to Thailand a number of times.
''He did like to have a drink but wasn't a heavy drinker. On the Saturday he asked if I could take his daughter.
"He said he was going away for two weeks and asked her what she wanted for her birthday. She said, 'just surprise me, Dad'."
Recording a finding of accidental death, Ms Mutch said: "The alcohol readings are very high and carry a high risk of death.
"This must have been a dreadful event in your lives and very hard for us to imagine how awful it must be to wave somebody off and to see them in good health knowing they have gone on holiday to Thailand."

Re: Brit dies of alcohol poisoning in Thailand
Looking at the full list of drinks that he is purported to have consumed, I am surprised that he only had 341mg in his blood.
Binge drinking and its effects tend to creep up on you, then it is too late.
So sad to lose his life to a night out.
His family must be devastated, on hearing they have lost a loved one.
RIP.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
