Can anyone give me a review of this place? Good, bad or indifferent? Looks nice on their web site and centrally located. Pete

Only just opened Pete, but it's supposed to be very nice. They were one of our donors for our fundraiser. Seen brochures & it looks lovely, and it also looks very chic from the road; minimalist, open-plan type of place. As you say, very central too. Has the spa, bar, restaurants - all the usual for a top class place, but never set foot inside (sorry!
)

Thanks Dawn. Being new and not heavily advertised is perhaps why they are one of the few (it appears) that have rooms av over the holidays, but not cheap. Looking at others I laughed. Places like the Dusit, Marriott etc. have holiday rates running around $260 as well ,except for New Years day when it goes to a bloody $600.00 for that day. Me thinks I fell asleep and woke up in Hong Kong, Tokyo or Pango Pango....LOL. Evason appears av also but a bit far out of town and again, holiday rates way up there. Pete

$600 for New Year's Day?
Bloody hell, really glad I've got a place here! Mine will cost me 290 baht for that day. Mind you, I've not got the facilities & I've got a dozen dogs sleeping in the bedroom with me... Maybe the hotels are a better deal...

JW, it's a good job you explained that, you just put everybody off the restaurant apart from Koreans and Geordies!DOGS NUTS is english slang for excellent!!
After i wrote that i thought about how different nationalities might read it, thought about you frowning in front of your computer thinking that JW must be out of his brains!

Myself and the GF stayed there for a couple of nights recently. They're running a promotion right now, about 3,700 B per night.
The place is lovely. We had a villa style room. When you enter the room there's a bright hall area with a bed/couch covered in cushions. You enter the bedroom to the right. Nice, very comfy large bed with probably a dozen or so pillows of different shapes and sizes.
There's a flat screen TV mounted on the wall in front of the bed... and get this, if you want to watch TV in the hall area you simply rotate the wooden wall and the TV is in the hall area... very cool indeed.
The bathroom / toilet area is nice. Big open shower plus bath. Nice bathrobes. Fancy tea and coffee making facilities, DVD player.
Outside the room there is a staircase leading to the rooftop where you have a nice shaded lounging barbecue area, the hotel can arrange a barbecue for you.
The grounds are lovely. They have a sunbathing area complete with Andaman sand and a couple of VERY NICE infinity pools.
They also have speakers all around the grounds which exude mellow chillout tunes all day long, adding to the atmosphere.
We only had one meal there; breakfast. It was excellent. The best fruit juice I've tasted, great coffee, cheese, fruit, freshly baked bread, pastries, cereals, yogurt, cold cuts, omlette, noodles....
If I wasn't so Kee Niaow (I try to pay less than 1000 baht per night normally), I'd stay there every time I vist Hua Hin... in fact it doesn't feel like you're in Hua Hin at all in this place. However they've managed you can see hardly any of the surrounding buildings from the bathing area and rooms... which gives you a feeling of seclusion.
Thumbs up from me.

I in no way will profess to be an expert on Hotels even thought I have stayed in many in my life. So long as they are clean and don't cost an arm and a leg they're OK by me.prcscct wrote:Actually Steve, they are one of the lowest of th 4 * types in HH over the Holidays. Places like the Dusit, Hyatt, Marriott, Evason were higher. Rooms over the period in most are fully booked already however. Pete
However I believe the star rating system is as much based on facilities than quality although of course these often go hand in hand.
I have stayed in some beautiful country hotels in Europe and the US that have a small restaurant and bar and some in room facilities but only 2 star ratings. Also I have stayed in some right shit holes in New York and Amsterdam that have somehow earned themselves 3 stars. The Hilton in San Jose which must have been the worst well known hotel that I have ever stayed in my life and had 4 stars I think.

Just been for a tour of the hotel and have to say I was very impressed. Well set back from Nebkahart road and beautiful, zen like surrounds. The room prices are not all that cheap but neither are they outrageous.
Richard, the Hotel Manager seems to be a really nice guy and is keen to build a good relationship with the ex-pat/local community in Hua Hin. Their tapas bar looks like an amazing place to spend an evening and considering the swankiness I was quite suprised to see that the prices are reasonable - only 80 Baht a local beer.
