British backpacker goes missing in Thailand after distressed phone call to mum
Grace Taylor, 21, from Swanage, was said to have been traveling solo in Pattaya when she spoke to her family on Feb. 16.
After not hearing from her for several days, Grace’s parents filed a missing persons report to the police on Sunday.
On Monday, Grace’s mother Sam received a distressing phone call from Grace, who was in Ao Nang and sounded “very stressed and frightened”.
In a Facebook post, Sam wrote that a panicked Grace had said that “people were trying to hurt her and were following her and she wanted to come home”.
After calming her down and booking her a flight home from Krabi airport, Grace’s parents found out that while she had made it to the airport, she had not gotten on the plane and had gone missing again.
Grace’s mother has made an appeal to the backpacker community in Thailand, asking them to keep an eye out for Grace, as previous sightings have reported her to be “disorientated and not in a good mental state”.
Sam added that a family member was flying out to Thailand to find Grace and bring her home.

While this story is very distressing and I hope it all works out fine, I just cannot understand how a 21 year old female can go back packing alone in a any foreign country. Surely one has to use some common sense and the family should also have put a block on her doing this trip alone.

As she made it safely to the airport perhaps she simply had second thoughts and decided to stay for any number of reasons. I hope that all works out well in the end and she is just found chilling somewhere.
I have to agree with Steve, how can any young girl consider backpacking on their own?

According some reports she is mentally ill and her parents should never let her travel alone.

KRABI — The British backpacker reported missing by her mother has been found at Krabi International Airport, police said.
21-year-old Grace Taylor was using a computer at Black Canyon cafe and “blowing a whistle” when police officers recognized her as the missing tourist on Tuesday afternoon, said the commander of the police force that covers Krabi airport.
“There’s nothing serious. We found her,” said Col. Thaksin Pochakorn. “She was sitting alone in the airport, blowing a whistle inside Black Canyon. I think she may have some kind of mental disorder.”

All good news in the end then, BUT as mentioned above how the hell could the family allow her to travel alone?! Absolutely mind-blowing!!

She's 21...
How exactly could they stop her?

I would have thought if she has a "mental disorder", something could have been done....Pleng wrote:She's 21...

Possibly? We don't know though, do we? We have no idea what this disorder is, or how serious it is.

Irrespective of if they could or could not stop her from backpacking in Thailand, I would certainly attempt to dissuade any female backpacker from going it alone here or in any other country. Thankfully on this occasion, except for some worrying times for the family and friends, it all turned out well in the end.

Now found at the Krabi airport. She seems to be OK.
