International School

Post by Big Boy »

I've just come back from a meeting with my son's school. We were discussing what needs to be done regarding his education if everything goes to plan and we move to Thailand in the second half of 2008.

The first, and most important thing I need to do is identify what school he will be attending when we arrive. I was hoping that the previously discussed plans for an International School in Hua Hin would come to fruition, but everything seems to have gone quiet.

I urgently need some recommendations for an International School in Thailand so that I can contact them to identify the exam boards they deal with etc.

My preference would be somewhere easily within commuting distance of Hua Hin, but failing that, I would be looking at anywhere else in Thailand, which has 'expat type' facilities ie I would not consider somewhere in the NE for example. I would also only consider Bangkok as a last resort - it is the one place in Thailand that I really detest (personal preferences and all that).

All offerings will be gratefully accepted, and investigated; so contact details would also be appreciated if known.

My son has to make some important 'life guiding' decisions in January, so I'd be grateful for as much information as possible soonest.

I can't give you any first hand advice from experience BB. I think a good place to start are the below links. I think they include just about all throughout the country. Pete

Thanks Pete, plenty to choose from there :thumb: very re-assuring to know that there are plenty.

Hopefully, a few recommendations will come in as well to help me focus on just a few.

With as many expats who live in Hua Hin this will happen sooner or later.

I imagine somebody has not paid off the right person yet.

Or has paid the right person to stop it happening!

I've received some information through a PM earlier today ie:
there is an international school called
yam sa ad (sp?) being built at the moment which will open for next school year in i think may.
there are road signs just put up for it first road on right just after tesco lotus heading south. just saw them firs time 2 days ago.
Does anybody have any more information eg:

Contact Details
Age Groups to be taught
Fees

I really need to get this sorted very quickly.

My current conning plan looks as if I'll have to move to somewhere like Pattaya first, and then re-locate to Hua Hin a year later. I'd really like to avoid that additional upheaval, and move directly to Hua Hin.

Lack of a response on this question (thanks to Pete & Dawn - very helpful) has helped us re-think our plans.

Mrs BB has modified her demands for me to retire to Hua Hin as soon as possible. The possibility of moving to somewhere like Pattaya for 12 months before settling permanently in Hua Hin did not appeal to her at all - nothing against Pattaya, as we've all had great times there in the past.

Our plans now are that I will retire to co-incide with the end of my son's A Levels in the Summer of 2009, at which time we will move directly to Hua Hin.
