Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree?

Post by DawnHRD »

OK, it can be easy to let Christmas just pass you by in LoS, but I bet every one of us gets in the Christmas mood when we hear certain Christmas "classics". So, what is the song that you always drunkenly sing at Christmas parties? What's your favourite carol? The Christmas song that makes you nostalgic? Or the one that you absolutely loathe?

For me:

Carol: Silent Night (preferably in German)

Classic: Fairytale of New York - The Pogues & Can you stop the cavalry - Jonah Lewie (Well, I think they're classic!)

Drunken singalong: Dunno, so many... umm, Slade?

Loathe: All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth & I saw Mummy kissing Santa Claus

Anyone else?

Good question Dawn.

As ever with me its easier to do the ones that make me cringe. Only two - Slade (sorry, I loathe this) and Cliff's Mistletoe & Wine.

Best: Chris Rea's Driving Home for Christmas, Bruce's Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and Sleigh Ride.

(England is covered in freezing fog this morning)

I must admit that I really like watching and listening to Handles Messiah once a year.

Also, watching the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, as well as one of the Scrooge movies, the older the version the better.

Of course sitting here in LOS, all of the above is a pipe dream unless you have them on tape or DVD.

There used to be several TV stations back in the States that broadcast nothing but a live blazing fireplace from Christmas Eve through Christmas Day, and played every Christmas carol known to man. It was a nice touch. Pete

The proper title of the Slade Christmas classic is 'Merry Xmas Everybody' but the 's' in Xmas is reversed; I should know - I have the original 7" single right here in Hua Hin!!
That song also conjures the right mood for me, but another one is the original Band Aid 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' which really sums up what it should be about. What happened to the money raised is another matter, but the sentiment was the right one.

There's always one, isn't there? Merry Christmas RC, you old Scrooge! And thanks so much for helping out in our Charity shop this year! You're a total sweetheart!

Ruined your street cred there, didn't I?
