Easiest bank to open account?

Post by niggle »

trying to find a bank which is not so restrictive as to make it difficult to open a deposit account prior to getting over there on retirement visa and to make it easier to satisfy the 3 month deposit regulation. Are there any local banks more sympathetic to this ?

Niggle,

When you say deposit accounts, if you mean the 'fixed-term deposit accounts' (which give you interest) then I know Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank provide these no problem, you only need an address and passport. I'm sure other banks do them too, but no experience.

If you leave your retirement visa money (800k) untouched in one of these accounts you can get around 4% interest P.A., around 32,000 Baht, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Also the banks located within the Market Village Mall are useful, as they are open until 9pm, plus open at weekends, something the normal banks do not do.

Good luck,

Kasikorn has worked for me very well past 7 years. I read on the Other Site that Bangkok Bank
has some very serious issues of monies being lost (apparently deliberately) on many, many occasions.

Always, always keep all the copies of all the documents when dealing with the banks here.
