In a nutshell my overreaction last night comes from your statemen{only 2 obvious candidates spring to mind } in my previous posts i gave 5 candidates and didnt write any of them out
Yes misunderstood but also not well described by myself. I included the word obvious for the reasons that you have described above.
It was my suspicion that although the explosives and timing devices were easily purchased locally, the detonators may not be so easy to obtain. This is why I am of the opinion that the bombings although very amateurish in their execution must have required, not so much planning but connection to parties able to supply the complete assembly. This fact in itself does not exactly rule out certain factions but does make them more unlikely as candidates. Now the two organizations that would easily be able to get access to such equipment are the TRT and thy Military.
So getting back to motivations which is the key here. Despite that fact that the army is run by a Muslim, it would be crazy for them at this time to make such an attack just at would have been in Hat Yai in September. If one single bomber had been caught the authorities would have linked the whole attack to the Muslims. This would have benefited no one.
To re-iterate and to express the opinion of many of the Thais that I have spoken with (albeit mostly Southerners) is that the disruption is all part of a sustained campaign to make Thailand appear to the outside world and within Thailand itself as a country that is escalating out of control.
When the time comes then it will be "enter stage North" for Thaksin with promises of restoring Thailand to its former glory under his regime. People have very short memories and the many corrupt deals and the selling off of the Thai family silver will be forgotten.
This potential scenario must be avoided at all costs.
As for the FO in London and it's equivalent in the US, warning travel not to travel to Bangkok as it is dangerous is just sheer hypocritical nonsense. I will go along with Pete and say that they should stick their boiler plate warnings up their arses.
Perhaps I should remind them that London is on a par with Belfast and Beirut as being the most bombed city on earth with New York catching up.
In addition to the extremely low risk in all those cities of actually being hit by a bomb in London you have the you have muggers, hoodies and illegal immigrants on every street corner. Also in all cities the number of people killed in road accidents exceeds the number of bomb casualties by about 10 to 100 fold.
