Creative Construction

Post by PeteC »

Another thread mentioned a hotel balcony, and if you can really stand on it..LOL.

Made me remember seeing adds for a very fancy condo complex off of Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Each unit is priced around 35-38 million Baht. It's about 20 stories high I think and each unit has it own swimming pool and each pool is directly above the pool(s) beneth it, all the way down to the ground.

Sorry folks, not for me. What will happen in 10 years or so when wear sets in? I think I would have to have sworn testimony and proof from the builder on how they constructed those balconies to hold all of that weight.

Anyone else have any amusing construction stories? Pete

Not funny, bozzman.

That is truly scary, Pete. Who on earth came up with that bright idea? When living in HK, I was worried about going out on the balconies of quite a few apartments I visited - nice cracks starting where the balcony joined the exterior wall. Not good. How big are those balconies, BTW? They'd have to be huge to have anything bigger than a bathtub in them. Weird. :?

Pete, one time when I was living in Jakarta, I was in an underground car park beneath a 16 storey apartment building and a 25 meter swimming pool when a 5.8 earthquake hit. The building was moving about a foot in each direction and making a lot of creaking noises. I wasn’t too cheerful about this as you can imagine!

Do I need to repeat myself? Your comment and emoticon are not tears of sadness or sympathy but tears of sarcasm and if you don't think people on here can see through you, you are more stupid than I thought. I lost people I knew in that incident and you mock it.

Absolutely more eurotrash or a carpet kissing rag head Thailand does not need. Just go away Mr. Shaking Ass. Pete
Why is it that any thing to do with America or Americans brings out this ugly side of you ?....why do you have to label bozzman as euro trash or raghead when you know nothing about him ? He made a simple comparison ..we all know what happened on 7 11 and have sympathy for all who perished but to start using racist terms is totally out of order. You should be ashamed of your self....no wonder the world dislikes America if you are what they export...

thanks for your post big jimmy
as you see i did not enter into a slaging match with him
i just uttered a very simple comparision
as to a domino efect as was discribed in a documantary abt twin towers how the weight of the floor above fell on the floor above it
as he describes all these swimming pools hanging off the side of a building in bkk
mabey he can keep his opinions of other ppl to himself

Big Jimmy,

Firstly the date was 9-11. You're hardly going to win friends amongst the American population if you compare the date to a convenience store! Secondly, Pete usually keeps his counsel, no matter what is said about Americans. But, I think we'll all agree that this was a very tragic time for the US, especially if, as Pete has stated, he had friends that died in the tragedy. I can't even begin to think how I'd feel if people I loved had died in that way. I get the shakes when I see a San Paulo ambulance because it brings back memories for me, and I'd certainly jump on anyone who made jokes about the way some of my loved ones died.
I think bozzman's comment was perhaps ill-advised, and Pete's comment maybe stronger than he would usually use, but grief is a very real emotion & if none of you have had to cope with the aftermath of a sudden & tragic death of loved ones, you're lucky.

I knew a person that perished on 9/11 as well. That doesn't mean the comparison on a purely "physical or architectural" level, is not valid. I'm altogether bored with the "Dixie Chick" syndrome that prevades some aspects of life in the US. :?

on a lighter note We have "Essex girls" in the UK would that be a ok comparison to a "Dixie Chick"

Lets keep the racism and callous remarks off this board please.

There seem to be a number of lurkers here who just enjoy jumping in on an opportunity to attack another member with very little "constructive" input from themselves.

Yes, I do need to apologize to all. Why I went off so strongly last night I am not sure.

I've been on here for the better part of four years I think and have absorbed many anti-American comments while turning the other cheek. I guess it was simply time to let off steam. I know it's difficult for some to distinguish between a country's government and a country's people. There is a big difference though, especially over these past 10 years in America.

Jimmy, only once before that I can recall I went off at someone about these subjects and he was a known troll who kept re-appearing under false handles and doing it time and time again. Therefore "all the time" is not really accurate.

I have deleted the offending post and once again apologize. Pete
