Police corruption, drug tested in Hua Hin
Re: Police corruption, drug tested in Hua Hin
And here was I ( as a first-time visitor to hua hin ) thinking how different Hua Hin was compared to Pattaya ('re police etc )
Routine drug testing farang at the side of the road ???
(And I guess something would as easily be planted as not ?)
I didn't hear much of That going on in Patts

Not sure if they set up at night time in same location, but occasionally during the day you will find them between the sharp left turn and then the sharp right right just as you are about to come towards 102,,,,,,,same in reverse from 102 towards 94,you come upon them very quickly,no chance to miss them or turn/detour.

This mafia will never dare to ask you to pee on a main road. If asked just pee on the field, they will not follow you to look at, and show an empty cup.

Then you are taken to the station for not providing a sample.europtimiste wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2017 3:17 pm This mafia will never dare to ask you to pee on a main road. If asked just pee on the field, they will not follow you to look at, and show an empty cup.

I am not sure this number is for that purpose. It's for business corruption.StevePIraq wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2017 4:01 pmLearn to use the internet, it is so easy, the number for the corruption hot line is 1570europtimiste wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2017 3:55 pmSo many reports about corrupt bastards, but not even one advice how to fight corruption, where and how to report.
Re: Police corruption, drug tested in Hua Hin
Whether or not this testing qualifies as corruption is actually debatable. After all, we have just heard from one person who was tested and then allowed to go on his or her merry way because they had passed the tests.
If they had failed, would the police involved have followed proper procedures, or would they have tried get an unofficial payment? We don't know the answer to that at this point.
Testing for drink or drugs is in itself not actually corruption. During my times in the UK I got breath tested several times, so I guess if the bobbies can do it their, then the BIB can also do it here.
However, reports that they are typically only targeting foreigners does tend to suggest that the main goal is some under-the-counter money, and that is disturbing, but certainly not surprising. There is not much people won't do for money over here.

I know a person who was stopped last week and searched. They found one Viagra tablet and would not accept this fact but said it was a prohibited ClassA drug - he paid 10.000 bht to make it go away.

Re: Police corruption, drug tested in Hua Hin
To be honest, I don't know what the status of Viagra is here in Thailand but I assume that the law requires you to have a prescription in order to purchase them. If that is the case, and you purchase without prescription, then as with the topic about e-cigs, you are offering yourself as an easy target for corrupt officials if they catch you with any of these tablets in your possession.
If something is illegal under Thai law, and you get caught break that law, the BIB are technically not doing anything wrong. However, their actions immediately become a case of corruption if they are willing to make the problem go away in return for a cash reward. And, of course we all know perfectly well that there is not a single copper in this country who will apprehend you for possession of one Viagra purely because they have your best interests in mind.
The same applies to so many other similar incidents, such as the wearing of crash helmets. Your average copper doesn't give a damn about your safety, but by stopping you for no helmet, there's an opportunity for money to be made.
Fortunately, as I have said before, in my 13/14+ years I have lived here full time, I have never been given a hard time by any Thai policeman. I have always found them to be very polite and friendly. Hopefully I won't have to discover otherwise.

Last 2 weeks the police had many times set up shop in the 94-102 section. Always between 20h and 24H, in the darkest part of the soi. I saw several farangs being stopped and pulled aside. Police doing what they do, I guess.

They set up check points at the little cut through behind Burger King, Yano near the chocolate factory place.. Well they got me there on my motorbike... I blow over 240, I got told I was going to the number 1 court in the morning... As I was waiting the Thai chick I was with started shouting, phoning people, the police guy turned 2 me and said she make big trouble for you.... Let's face it I was banged to rights, so b4 they took my name I pulled a police guy 2 the side and asked how much... He wanted 10000, I got him 7000, gave him the money, and then they let me ride my bike away, in the state I was in.... But they never made me do a piss test... I just think if u have nothing to hide u have nothing to worry about, get ya phone out n start filming, be polite, there's my 2 cent lol hope u deal with it ok
