Monsoon trough heads to city, PM orders alert https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... on-the-way
A fresh round of torrential downpours is expected in the lower Central region including Bangkok over the next few days because of a monsoon trough, according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).
For the capital in particular, the TMD forecasts that maximum rainfall over the period could be as high as 60 millimetres, which is the maximum level the capital's water drainage system can accommodate, Thongplew Kongjun, Royal Irrigation Department (RID) deputy director-general, said Monday.

No rain in the east all day. Allowed me to get all the grass cut as finally dried out from last week’s rain. Ok to rain now, bring it on!

I assume this was a mistake in the article and should be 60 cms not 60 mm which is hardly anything by Thai standards?PeteC wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2017 6:58 am Huge deluge on the way

It was never going to happen. I have no idea where these people get their forecasts from, but it appears that none of them can read a synoptic chart. Yes, there was a piddly little low pressure trough laying from the Andaman Sea across Thailand and Bangkok, which did bring some overcast, and is now pretty much dissipated.Monsoon trough heads to city, PM orders alert https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... on-the-way
But there was, and is, a huge ridge of high pressure extending all the way from China, across SE Asia from the NE into Northern Thailand which is completely blocking the last of the SW Monsoon flow from the West. It is feeding a developing low pressure area West of the Philippines, which could become a Typhoon, but would have little effect on Thailand.

Ridiculous! The rain was reported to be heaviest in Phra Nakhon district, where 214 millimetres rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours from 7am Friday to 7am Saturday, but the drains can handle only 60mm a day. The deluge started at 11pm Friday.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Can"t win with the rain forecast, so lets try this:
........................................................................................
Cold season to start next week
https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box
The cold season is expected to arrive after the downpour forecast for early next week, with temperatures initially dropping by 2-5°C, the Meteorology Department says.
For the next three days of what the department called the "variable weather conditions" period from Oct 21-26, the upper part of the country will experience rain and strong winds. After that, it will be cold-season time, the department said on Friday morning.
These weather conditions are the result of a clash between a high pressure zone from China, which will bring cooler temperatures, and the present humid and hot weather in Thailand.
Provinces in the currently flooded Central Plains, including Bangkok, are expected to see a significant seasonal change on Oct 22-23.
After the transitional six-day period, the North, Northeast and Central Plains will have less rainfall, but in the South it will get wetter, the department said.

It's been raining hard here in the east with significant thunder and lightening since midnight.....and it's still raining as I write. A lot of flooded roads at the moment.
The heavy clouds are headed east to west across the gulf right now per the satellite, so you may be seeing some weather over in HH shortly. Pete

Been raining here for a few hours now, Pete.
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
It is crystal clear in Bangkok, not a cloud to be seen. Just hope it stays that way for the rest of today.

Yes, amazing luck. I wondered if the army had done something to the clouds around Bangkok to disperse rainclouds for today? It's been a wonderful ceremony and terrific low-key TV coverage.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
I doubt that Hua Hin will be affected very much. The Low they are referring to is off the coast of Brunei and the huge high pressure area over China that is causing a strong air flow from the North East, will probably block it from getting near Hua Hin. The far south around Songla, and maybe Chumpon, may be affected. That dotted red line shown has been laying there for the last week, and the low pressure area is not that low.
Of interest on the synoptic charts, is the extent and pressure of the high over China. On the latest chart it is showing a central pressure of 1050 Mb, something not often seen.
It is the onset of the North East monsoon as expected.

I don;t know what's happening as not expected, but a thunder cell sitting over the Rayong coast is currently killing us here with hard rain and a magnificent thunder and lightening show! Pete
