Hi Guys , can anyone recommend the best place to buy new Tyres ( for a car ) in Hua Hin.

I am guessing some places are more expensive than others ( especially if your a farang )

Farang or not, prices are different according to brand and shop. Check yourself.......

Some of the larger distributers have prices online now so at least you shouldn't have that problem.

Own experience. Best help comes from yourself. There are many tyres , various profiles and of course different prices. All shops are easy to find and only Fabman can make his choice. I am not nasty, you have a bad mind.

This may be absolute garbage, or it may be specific to Ford owners, but the last few times I've been to Ford to have my car serviced, they have been selling tyres for a fraction of the cost I paid to replace mine - exact same spec as they put on their new vehicles.

I have made a mental note that I will be going there when my tyres next need changing. A set of new tyres is advertised at about the cost of a single tyre the last time I changed.

As I said, I might be misleading you - I've not actually tried them yet. There may be a hidden catch, but the way the offer reads, I'd be stupid to go elsewhere.

I've had good luck with the 'ACT' chain, Udon Thani / Krung Thep. Bad luck with 'Maxxis' chain, Udon Thani, counterfeit Dunlops.

Local Toyota / Mazda (Udon Thani), didn't do tires or battery sales, when I owned, as dealer would be my first choice, if competitively priced.

Surely one of the benefits of this forum is all about sharing experiences - good, bad or indifferent, so to ask questions to avoid the potential pitfalls is a wise move. At the end of the day, it’s the buyer who will make the final choice, but they will hopefully do so as an informed buyer rather than stepping completely into the dark.

Yesterday I put new tires on my Pajero Sport. Bridgestone Dueler. 265x65 R18. Same as the original ones. 32000 baht at the Cha Am Mitsubishi dealer.

Before you walk in to any place, note that all tyre shops have a certain brand that they tend to promote over others. Now, with that out of the way, most well-known brand names have fairly similar specifications, and in normal use you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. So..

Take down all the pertinent data about your tyre before you go to the shop.
Tyre size, wheel size are the minimum. Then,

Walk into every shop you can without your car and ask about prices for those specs. Base your purchase on that.

Side note: you may get some good deals - not the 'buy three tyres, get one free', but maybe if your spare is getting on and it is a standard (not space-saver) tire, you could get a good price for five.
Other thing to check for is the date of manufacture. It is a 4-digit number, usually the last four at the end of the DOT code and is seperately embossed on the sidewall.
First two digits is the week (in the year) of manufacture. 1 through 52.
Last two digits are year of manufacture.
So, 0314 would be, 3rd week of January, 2014..
I usually buy in Bangkok around Wongwien 22 as the tyres there are new stock, only a few months old. Don't buy old stock as rubber deteriorates even if never used.

My rule of thumb for tyre replacement - 2 years, but not more than 3 based on the sidewall data, and..
40,000 km on the clock not more than 50,000 km.
All this assuming your tyre thread wear bars are within the limits.

Yes.........do learn how to read a label / tire. Know what all the numbers mean, especially if you have a heavy foot.
