Family Hotel? Price not important.

Any idea what the best hotel Hua Hin would be for a family holiday? Cost is not an issue.

Thanks, Pete

Family friendly

Post by Keoni »

I've stayed at the Hilton a few times. Have seen families there. They have an activities desk too. I think they have programs available to keep the kids entertained too. Not sure of the cost for those activities though.

There's also a movie theater which shows a few movies daily - mostly family oriented and I think free of charge? It's not really a theater. More like a room with a Big Screen TV and a few rows of seats.

The Hotel is guest friendly. However, other than in the brewery, you don't really see girls trolling for dates. Only once late at night did a security guard try to stop my lady friend to ask her for ID. She gave him a hard time, and he left us alone.

So your children won't be traumatized by seeing anything they shouldn't

The food/drinks are expensive, but you're so close to so many other restaurants in town that it really shouldn't matter, unless you plan to spend a lot of time at the pool or in your room. The food wasn't really true Thai like the other local spots, and not really true Western either. I'd say for Thai food, go to the local spots like Sawadee across the street, or Chaolay at the pier. For Western, the Hilton's not bad, but I haven't tried any Western food elsewhere in town (prefer the thai food) I did have Dinner at the Italian place in the Marriott which was pretty good but very expensive. There are several local Italian placesthat are probably much less expensive than the Marriott, but I haven't tried them yet.

Here's the link to the activities desk

Hi Keoni,

Many thanks for your reply. I should have asked this first but I assume that HH is a fairly nice resort and a suitable for families?

HH is certainly a resort for families. It's been promoting itself as such for years.
There are girlie bars around, but you can stay well clear of them if you want. Most are fine for kids earlier on anyway. HH dosn't have the bar scene of Bangkok or Pattaya etc.
I have a few gripes about the beach, but it was voted third cleanest in Thailand last year. It's also shallow and so safe for children. Be a bit careful of the jellyfish though. They can be really nasty. However, they're generally encountered further out to sea.
There's plenty to do, from relaxing around the pool/on the beach to visiting elephant camps and monkey mountain. There are also plenty of day trips that can be easily organised to Kanchaburi - bridge over the river Kwai and temples in Petchaburi. There are also a couple of good national parks fairly close by.
In all, HH is relaxing. Enjoy yourselves.

Thanks for the replies. I've checked the websites and the Hilton looks a little too high rise for us. Sofitel looks a little too Colonial and Anantara is too far out of town. Has anyone been to the Marriott?

The Marriot used to be The Royal Garden Resort, as opposed to The Anantara which was The Royal Garden Village.
The Marriot should cater for your needs. Not too far out of town - ie 10 min walk and a bit posh.

Now discovered that Marriott don't have rooms for 2 adults plus 2 kids. Anyone stayed at "Central Hua Hin Village", not the hotel but the bungalows opposite?

PeteM,

I'm watching this closely as I have to find somewhere for my family to stay over Christmas, so can I please ask you to post back if you find something?

Thanks
Kate
