How long have you been in HH, Blood?
Because I can remember the "bad old days" when you quite literally took your life in your hands when walking around the centre of town after 2am.
The dogs were big and seriously aggressive.
Of course the Thais took care of the problem in their own way - ie did nothing.
2 months - but I've been visiting for a few years now.
Are you trying to tell me that the Ferang-run dog rescue has made it safe for you to walk the streets in the early hours of the morning? That's quite a claim! So the dog rescue is full of ferocious dogs which have been tamed?
Blood,
From your posts you are obviously a complete fool.
You have taken in nothing from your visits and have no idea how much good Dawn and the HHDRC have done.
Get a life and open your eyes.

HHDRC Facing Closure
Well Folks
We are now onto Page 3 of our comments.
Have we solved the problem for Dawn or are we just dancing around
taking swipes at each other.
Let's put all this energy into a solution somehow and those of us that
want to help try and think of a way to do it.

I'm afraid I can't think of any way to solve the overall problem - and certainly not one that would take adequate account of the sensitivities of our hosts.
I do agree with rosievictoria that very little appears to have emerged so far from this thread in terms of providing concrete support to enable Dawn to continue her work.
I don't have time to work as a volunteer as I'm trying to build up my own fledgling business.
It is understandable for people to have different ideas on how the overall problem of stray dogs should be handled here but at the moment it would appear that Dawn and her colleagues are the only ones on the ground actually trying to do something about it.
It would be a sad state of affairs if all this were to come to nothing, especially in view of Dawn's neuter and release plans, which should then have some significant impact on the problem if they can be implemented.
I would be happy to assist in some organisational way, e.g. in a fund-raising group if a general framework could be set up.
In the meantime, we would like to offer Dawn a cash contribution of THB 10,000.
I realise that this will probably not go very far, but hopefully it could have a multiplier effect.

Way to go Barry and Jackie...is why i didnt pm Dawn on this matter,i think Dawn has had some pledgers of cash donations which is very generous of all..But be really good to see more idea's of a continnous way which Dawn and her crew ain't scratching or dipping into there own pockets to keep the shelter operational......Dawn maybe able to enlighten us if any pm's have came up with good idea's......I know besides what i have offered and living in H.H on a full-time base,i certainly would volunteer my services to help out any way i could,as i will be doing while's back there on vacation...
Peace Out..

Thanks so much Barry & Jackie. That's wonderful of you! we're so grateful. Jackie, the shop sells virtually anything we can resell. Nothing too big, like furniture, as we don't have room, but clothes, ornaments, toys , Cds, VCDs, DVDs, videos, electrical equipment, jewellery, books, household equipment - anything really.
I was going to post this part last night, but I was too tired:
Thank you to everyone who has helped out since I launched this appeal:
That's everyone who's posted on this thread (whether they agreed with the center or not, they've helped spark some interest & keep the thread up there so it gets attention), everyone who has pm'ed me with ideas or pledges, everyone who's pledged on the thread, Lev & Admin for letting me post & also for volunteering to give me a webpage attached to HHAD, to Mark from Sun Rise real estate who phoned me yesterday with a very good idea for consistent monthly funding, which he has already started acting on, & I will post on once I've talked to HHAD admin, to Wanderlust & Randy Cornhole & to Omer who does HHDRC's website for their help & support, I'm sure there are more... if I've forgotten you, I'm sorry, but "thank you".
I'm not sure how we're doing yet, as a lot of pledges have been for unspecified amounts, but I'll keep you all informed.
From the dogs & I, Thank you for your support. I'm starting to feel a bit more positive about the future & I can look at the dogs again without crying about what's going to happen to them. I know, I'm a wuss!!

Are you thinking of adult(s) or pup(s)? They are kept in two seperate places, you see. The healthy adults (more than 100 dogs) are in the actual center. It is actually inside the Tessadban dog shelter (nr Wat Etisukato & Elephant Village). You have to walk into their facility & we have a compound on the left of the path, just past their offices. My home (where sick dogs & pups are) is in Khao Pitak - on Soi 88.alleykat wrote:Where actually is the centre? I have looked at the website but can't seem to find a street address anywhere.
Can possibly foster one or two initially, then adopt one later.
If you want to visit, give me a call on 081 9814406. I'll be happy to give you more detailed directions, show you around & tell you anything about the dogs you'd like to know.

Just my two pennorth Dawn and HHDRC do a good and worthwhile job because they do find homes for the dogs and takes care of them we only part company with the release back to the soi system.
As far as i know Dawn has never claimed to have reduced the dog numbers and IMHO it is wrong to presume it I am a great believer in hearing all the evidence before condemning, what i will say is she has reduced the numbers somewhat and they are still alive.
The pessabahn has its pre HIGH season cull every year (that alone speaks volumes)and trust me it is neither humane or pretty but it is done in line with religious beliefs.
I will not donate because of the release to the soi system but i would encourage anyone who has no problem with it to donate and i wish you the best of luck Dawn

I'm aware this topic seems to invoke a lot of emotion and passion if questions are asked, so please be gentle with me! I am genuinely interested in the subject of dog welfare as my sister is a vet and we have run a pet sanctuary back home. I have heard the Thai authorities are building a very large new dog sanctuary in the Hua Hin area in which all sick stray dogs will be taken. Can anyone please give me more information? Thank you to Dawn for giving me her informative honest feedback, and to some of the others - I've now realised I have to tread carefully in here - it's a minefield
