The only time I ever saw a McDonalds that had made an attempt to blend into the local architecture was in Salzburg, Austria some years ago, where they had made the golden arch sign with brass lettering on a polished wood background. I assume the local authorities forced them into this
Steve,
Just reading down this topic and Nisakiman's pertinent observations, if my memory serves me correctly the dreaded McD you refer to in Salzberg was in fact the house where Mozart was born and yes the local authority were quite strict re planning permission according to the tour guide.

I was staying with friends just outside Frankfurt a few years ago, and one day we all went to look round Heidleburg, another lovely old city. My friends proudly pointed out the shop in the old town which had apparently been the first dispensing pharmacy in Europe, sometime in the 15th or 16th century, a lovely old building. Except for the fact that now.... Yes, you guessed it... Defaced with those bloody golden arches.......
There seems to be a total lack of sensitivity for local architecture......
I find that more unforgivable than the garbage they serve.
Old buildings should be torn down and replaced with modern fast foods places like McDonalds, we're not cavemen anymore.
15th century pharmacy's !? you're having a laugh aren't ya, you can get condoms and nurofen at the local 7/11's.

Everything should be new and shiny and the world will look a brighter place.

Mozart, Immanuel "Can't" Kant, nee Wolfgang, was lesser known German philosopher.
He was so insignificant that Monty Python left him out both from the Philosophers Song
and the football crew of Greek Philosophers versus German Philosophers.
Actually, he not only was but still is lesser known, as evidenced by the quotation above.

But, if id havent been said before, have you ever noticed how EMPTY Burger King is? What should make McD any better? And i've always bragged about having no McD in Hua Hin. Hm, one less thing to brag about... If the place is set on fire, i sure did'nt do it. Or, i will never admit it... :)

Locturian,

You'll have to join the queue of people who won't do it or admit it...

Burger King is like that in the States also. I guess they have their loyal following as they run their burgers through a conveyor system with some kind of flame that gives them a unique flavor, I guess?

Actually, I think Burger King is owned by a British Corp., for the past several years now.

Also, I think the same holds true for Pizzas. Pizza Company I think is kicking Pizza Hut's butt big time. The latter is always empty. Pete

I don't understand, cause, hey, there's SO MANY alternatives for great and easy eating in Hua Hin. Who would, in their right mind, stop by Burger King or McD ? Ok ok, that said, McD and BurgerKing has some great frenchfries - But other than that, when you finish your "meal" you feel sick and FAT.

No, i will be a glorious and victorious day when MacD and BurgerKing is forced to close the doors for good in Hua Hin. I for one will sit outside, and a from home brought resting chair, filling my self up with a bottle of water with a sidedish of thai-something, klapping my hands, screaming like a crazy man - Down goes the unhealthy mastodont that once was. Man is evolving, the time of fastfood and a fast heart-attack has surpased. Long live the thai life, and long live His Majesty The King!

Whoooop :)
