The demise of Hua Hin's computer shops
Re: The demise of Hua Hin's computer shops
I didn't see any shops with components (graphics cards, mainboards, CPUs etc), unless they're all hidden. There was one shop with a couple of pre-built desktops and some overpriced low spec laptops, but that was not what I was after, not one shop in Hua Hin had what I was looking for.

Buksi, if you come up Soi 70 from Petch and take a right at the roundabout/railway line, about 100M on the right (apparently Soi Phrom-Suke) there is a computer parts shop straight out of the late 90s. They have all manner of cables, motherboards, graphics cards, etc. Not sure if they will have what you're after but they have always been very friendly and willing to help on the occasions I've been in looking for odds and sods.
Separately, it's not just the Hin that has seen a demise in such Alladin's caves, even my old Mecca of TCR has fallen victim to the throw away rather than rebuild society and it's all prepackaged "thou shalt not open" nonsense with chips over-glued so you can't work out what they once were in order to find a reasonable replacement.
Apparently, it's "progress".

^^ Yes J.J.B. You "progress" to the tip to dump one old/broken/not working computer, then "progress" to the shop to buy a new one.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
Re: The demise of Hua Hin's computer shops
Good to know JJB but with the convenience and better pricing on Lazada, I don't think I need to bother with shops in Hua Hin any longer!

Re: my earlier post about Job at K.A.N. Computers on the 3rd floor of the Hua Hin Shopping Mall. As of 20 minutes ago (11.30AM on 3rd October 2016), he still has the shop and is still trading and will be for the forseeable future. The shops there open at about 9.30am until 8.30pm. If you visit there outside these hours you will be met by shutters down. IT City were diagonally opposite his shop and they were still open although I did see their new shop in Bluport yesterday. M&T Computers who are directly opposite him are still there aswell.
Re: The demise of Hua Hin's computer shops
We went around late morning a few weeks ago, IT City and JIB or whatever it was called, at either ends were all shuttered up, not much obvious in between, but now I know it is there will bear in mind if I ever set foot up there again ... which is highly unlikely.
Bluport may have the odd IT store but they're probably targeting iBangkokians wanting a new Pokemon cover for their latest iPhart 7. I miss the days rambling around in the Aladdin's Caves mentioned above.

I think IT City now have one of the small shop fronts in the old shopping mall. Also Advice which is another national store. One of the shops up there has a large selection of cables which is sometimes useful.
As for bluport, I noticed a few computer shops, such as Banana IT. When I'm looking for computer stuff (rare these days) I usually take a look on the websites of JiB and Advice (never Banana) and then, if the item is on the website, wander down to whichever store.
I too miss the days of wandering around pantip, especially the parts places down the back. But progress and age mean those days are gone for me at least.

Re: The demise of Hua Hin's computer shops
Looks like another good Hua Hin computer shop has bitten the digital dust.
There was a PC gaming store in Bluport near the cinema that sold higher end kit which is now boarded up.
Looks like JIB in Market Village is the only place with stock where you can buy reasonably priced PC components.

Advice Computer are a national chain and still have (I think!) a store in the old shopping mall. I'm not sure how much or what kind of stuff they have in stock though. Both Advice and JIB have online stores as well.

The shop in Soi 6 has been closed for some time now.

Re: The demise of Hua Hin's computer shops
Advice has a newer shop in Cha Am south of the traffic light on the sea side of the street. Big orange frontage so it's easy to see. Also there is a local shop without much in the way of signage or storefront but they have helped me on more than one occasion. Just across from Rugthai Pharmacy on the same street as the wet market. Look for the place on the sidewalk where there is a concrete table and computing things of all sorts lying around, you can't miss it.

Advice is an exceptional shop with great cheap service. Being a national chain they can look up stock in any store and if not available in HH it is delivered in 2 days. I highly recommend them.
3rd floor old shopping mall.
Most other shops on 3rd floor seem to have closed now.
