I am comming to HH in June with my partner. I am a student, so spending money is a issue, can anyone tell me how much i can expect to pay for:
Meal in a really good restraunt
Meal in a ok restraunt
Some idea of alchol prices
Any other info that will help me figure out how much spending money i will need would also be really appreciated.
Thanks Chris

Hello Stormy,
One thing you'll find is that prices here are considerably lower than in the West. Nevertheless, it's easy for your hard earned cash to disappear. To give you some guidelines:
1/ In HH, a meal for two in a "good" restaurant, including a few beers each, will probably set you back about 1,000 Baht. You would generally be eating western food for this price.
Eating in a "good/medium" Thai restaurant will cost around half that for the same.
If you like snacking, then you can get a good bowl of noodles on the street for 10-20 Baht. It's all good food, btw. Very few people suffer from stomach upsets over here.
2/ BOOZE. Assuming you like a few jars, I'll bet this is where most of your money will be spent.
All the bars in town are roughly the same price, ranging from 50 Baht for a small bottle of Chang (6.4%!!) to 70-80 Baht for a small bottle of Heineken or Carlsberg.
Note that a large bottle of Chang will cost 35-37 baht from a 7-11.
3/ Accomodation. you didn't mention this, but there is a huge variety of places to stay. Plush hotels can set you back 6,000 Baht a night. Flea pits, about 200 Baht. Mid range, comfortable accomodation can be found for 800-1,000 a night.

A number of years ago, I went on the wagon for a month. Just out of curiosity, I made a note of how much I was spending a day. It turned out to be on avarage 150 Baht. Accom obviously not included.
So, you can do it really cheaply, but I assure you, it's not much fun

PS. If you're coming with your partner, I assume you'll not be partaking in the delights of the ladies of the night. This will also save you a small fortune.
Hope that's of some hlep.

Thanks for all the info lomuamart, that should help me budget a lot better. We will probably eat in the best restraunts we can find a few times, but will almost certainly eat Thai food - dont understand people who travel thousands of miles and eat what they eat every day back home!
We are staying at the Anantara - got a amazing deal (£600 / 42000 bhat) for 14 nights including flights) any views on what the place is like??
I have heard that Hua Hin is close to national parks - what wild life are there to go and spot?

The anantara is a GREAT place to be, 5-10 mins with taxi from the nightlife, but as you are with your partner, you will probably not take part in that

the place is 5 star, has spa etc etc.

if you only have B-B then expect to spent some cash there to eat, so you better eat out.

some good restaurants are on SOI 57, all depending on budget
seafood on the peir. donno about the prices their though, to much tourist there for my taste.

food in Hua Hin

Post by Keoni »

Hey Flyguy,

I stayed at the Hilton a few times. Just across the street from the Hilton is a place called Sawadee. My thai "lady-friend" preferred it. I thought the food was very good. Big thai selection at prices that seemed inexpensive to me (coming from the very expensive city of San Francisco)

We also went to Chaolay on the pier several times. Chaolay seemed to be the only restaurant on the peirs that was busy with locals, and few tourists - so that probably says something about the price and quality - both excellent in my opinion.

I'm sure there are other local places perhaps less expensive, but it's all probably a matter of perspective. Coming from San Francisco, even the pricier places in Hua Hin seemed inexpensive to me.

Have a great time.

I have had several dinners at Sawadee, I really liked the food. Most times I had a vegetarian meal and it tasted very good and fresh.
The staff was very friendly too and when you sit close to the street you can watch Hua Hin pass by.
And the price is still hard to beat.
