Car stolen a year ago returned to Hua Hin Brit

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: A business couple whose car was stolen in Hua Hin over a year ago was delighted when police returned it to them in the southern province of Phatthalung on Wednesday.

British national Martin Sanders, 58, who has a car rental business in Hua Hin, and his wife Sumalee Samerwan, 44, arrived at Phatthalung provincial hall with a bouquet of flowers for provincial governor Kukiat Wongkraphan and local police as a token of appreciation.

Mr Sanders' Honda car, registered in Prachuap Khiri Khan, was stolen from Hua Hin more than a year ago.
Phatthalung police launched an operation targeting stolen vehicles and false registrations in September. Several cars and motorcycles were seized.

Among those vehicles was a grey Honda sedan with Bangkok licence plates. Checks found that the licence plates were fake and the car's registration was falsified. The vehicle was seized from Ekkchai Laopakdeepong, 46, of Muang district, Phatthalung.

Police dug a bit deeper and found the engine and chassis numbers matched a car with Prachuap Khiri Khan licence plates reported stolen. They then notified Mr Sanders and his wife their car had been recovered.
Mr Sanders thanked the Phatthalung governor and police for their efforts to retrieve his car. He never thought he would get it back.

The governor was engaged in an official trip outside the province, and assigned Col Thim Ruentor, deputy director of the provincial internal security operations command, and Pol Col Triwit Sriprapa, deputy chief of Phatthalung police, to receive the flowers from the couple.
