Boy, 12, skipping classes after being whipped by teacher

Post by Nereus »

This was reported a couple of days ago(details at the link shown). Why the hell are the useless police not dealing with it? I know for sure if it was any kid of mine they would be, even if it was only to arrest me! This straight out assault, have a look at the earlier photo.

BURI RAM: A 12-year-old boy who was severely beaten with a stick by his teacher is taking a week off school, recovering at home from the bruising and trauma.

Piya Putthapoh, the director of Anuban Phutthaisong School in Phutthaisong district, said on Monday the boys' parents had informed the school of their decision to keep him at home for a week. The young student was taking leave to recover from the bruising and regain his composure, the principal said.

Earlier report: Schoolby whipping investigated

The boy in Prathom 6 (Grade 6) was last week whipped 10 times on his buttocks and lower back in front of the class, after being ordered to go outside and do 50 jumping jacks, or star jumps, by his English-class teacher.
The punishment followed his failure to recite a multiplication table during the afternoon session.

His close friend said on Monday that the boy was whipped because the teacher knew that he made only 30 jumps, instead of 50. His friend had cried as he returned to his seat. The stick was reportedly wrapped in duct tape.

After seeing the extensive bruising on her son, his mother on Friday lodged a complaint with the school and threatened to move him to another school unless action was taken against the teacher.

Mr Piya said the teacher, whose name was withheld, had admitted to inflicting the punishment but said he had good intentions. He accepted that he would be investigated for inflicting excessive punishment.

Anuban Phutthaisong School on Monday temporarily reassigned the 35-year-old teacher from Prathom 6 to Prathom 5 classes, to ease parents' concerns about his behaviour.

Samorn Painawadee, a legal official at the Region 4 Primary Education Office, expected the investigation to be wrapped up this week. The teacher would face a disciplinary inquiry and then punishment if he was found to have over-stepped the mark.

Corporal punishment in schools has been outlawed for the best part of 20 years but it still keeps happening. WTF is an investigation going to accomplish? He's admitted the assault. Why don't the parents report him to the police. At the very least, this guy should be chucked out of the teaching profession and charged with assault.

So what does the school do? Move him to another class. Shameful.
In cases like this, not only the teacher should be arrested but the school principal and members of the education dept should be taken to task for being implicit in a 'gloss over'.

Every child should have the Childline Thailand on their phone (1387). When it's reported to them, they WILL take action.

Corporal punishment in schools is ridiculous and Thai teachers like this are still in evidence everywhere, sadly...how about a few hours gardening? I can imagine most Thai youths would consider 15 hours weeding or assisting the gardening/service department of the school for waywardness under the supervision of a teacher much more humiliating than almost anything else. Same as when the cops catch a bunch of racers at night...give them all some community service like sweeping the streets of their city for 50 hours (along with crushing the bike).

From Childline Thailand website:
When Childline Thailand receives a call regarding a child being subjected to violence by a teacher, we immediately officially notify the school’s Principal and report the act of violence to the Ministry of Education.
If nothing gets done, then at least it's on record to follow through on.

Well, I will publicly challenge any teacher here to abuse one of my kids in a way this teacher has. No, I will most definitely NOT go to the police; and no, I will NOT report him either. However, I have been gifted with a very creative imagination, and revenge will be so sweet.

Much as I agree with the sentiment, taking your own revenge can be counter productive. I can't find it now but what you're suggesting actually happened a couple of years ago. The parent was arrested, charged and had to pay compensation to the teacher. The teacher carried on teaching!

:agree:

It might help you feel better initially, but the long term could be devastating.

I saw something over the last few days (anti-war for poppy day) that made me sit back and think. Basically going to war has so many unthinkable side effects. If you were imprisoned, and probably deported afterwards, where would that leave you and your daughters?

That revenge may hurt the guy for a couple of hours, but hurt you and your family forever.

Believe me, as the saying goes, there are many ways to skin a cat. And no, I would definitely not be arrested, deported, or anything like.
