And maybe adjust and connect the chin strap. I saw a woman knocked off a bike, the first thing I actually saw was a helmet flying through the air, she'd just popped it on her head for the feds. If you don't adjust/tighten the chin-strap you might as well not wear the helmet.

Who cares how much the on the spot fine will be, if you wear a helmet it will not matter.DawnHHDRC wrote:So, if it's 500bt per person fine for not wearing a helmet, officially, wonder how much the "on the spot" fine will be?MIB could be onto a nice little earner just before month end or public holidays.
Why get angry, feel the music
Love the pic Big Boy. Not in Thailand I believe. Even if the locals wore them back to front but with the strap done up it would be better than now.
I wonder how many drivers have had accidents in the process of taking their helmet out of the basket to place it on their head and vice versa. It beggars belief that people think it's easier to sometimes carry your helmet in one hand while driving than to have it on your head.
Dawn, if you're still looking for kid's helmets. I bought for my 6 and 8 year old at a small shop a few metres past the Bankok Bank going north.
People who drive motorcycles should be aware that their stopping capability is directly relative to their speed and the amount of rubber in contact with the road which in most cases is only a couple of square inches.

I do not see many damaged motorcycle baskets, so I suppose that even the cheap helmets protect to some degree. I saw a farang today, riding a motorcycle carrying a baby with one arm, no helmet, (sorry helmet in basket) no shirt, thought he was very clever, what a dipstick!!

Travelled from Hua Na over the fly over to Hua Hin this morning. Had to pass a bike with one of those trailer boards attached to the side. Nothing unusual, but Dad was on the pillion teaching his son. The boy was on the front, no more than 8 or 9 years old, going very slowly but weaving across two lanes. Of course - no helmets. 'Teaching comes from the parents!!' Says it all doesn't it?
The tin hat is a must as every experienced biker will tell you, as a re a good set of leather's.
I am amazed at the foriegner's who are educated and know the risks of riding without a tin hat, but it never cease's to raise a smile when I see a foriegner riding a motorbike with a set of golf club's horizontal across his back totally oblivious to the problem's he is causing to himself and other road user's.

motorcycle deaths
On february 9th, a swedish guy by the name of bjorn lindblad was killed on his scooter at about 2 am. He was not wearing a helmet and was a long time hua hin resident. The reporter who wrote his obituary said the "accident" was the culmination of a road rage type of arguement with a tuk tuk driver, or passengers. He died of head injuries a couple days later. maybe the autopsy will reveal whether the head injuries were caused by the concrete pavement or maybe something else. His girlfriend was on a second scooter, but she always wears a helmet. Anyway a helmet is good protection not only in an accident, but also in a fight that may follow the accident. If anybody knew bjorn, please drop me a line.
