Patrouille Suisse: Fighter jet display team fly-by misses town

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-48916084

Not only did they miss their intended target, but they ended up displaying for a yodelling festival! Priceless...
A Swiss aerial display team has performed a fly-by over the wrong town, surprising people at a yodelling festival taking place nearby.

The Patrouille Suisse were due to fly over Langenbruck to honour the centenary of a Swiss flying pioneer.

But instead the team flew over the nearby town of Mümliswil, which was hosting the 31st Northwest Yodelling Festival.

A spokesman for the Swiss Defence Ministry has apologised for the error.

The squadron - a Swiss version of the UK's Red Arrows or the US Blue Angels - was due to perform for the 100th anniversary of the death of Oskar Bider.

Bider was the first person to fly over the Alps in both directions, a feat he accomplished in 1913 at the age of 22.

The aviator was born in Langenbruck. But the squadron leader saw the tent set up for the yodelling festival in Mümliswil, roughly 6km (4 miles) west of the town, and misdirected the jets.

A spokesman for the Swiss military told the German language Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper that the F-5E Tiger II aircraft were not equipped with GPS technology.

The yodel festival patrons are reported to have enjoyed the unexpected show.

Police officer's shocking discovery under man's bonnet during RBT

https://au.news.yahoo.com/police-office ... 14233.html

Police who pulled over a man driving a vehicle with “defective and worn out tyres” were shocked when they opened the bonnet to find a bizarre gardening tool inside.

The white Holden Commodore’s driver, a 35-year-old from Whalan in Sydney’s west, had fixed a garden blower to the vehicle’s air filter box.

In a post to the NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Facebook page, police said the driver claimed he installed the blower to “improve engine performance”.

The orange tool had been wired to the engine’s battery to blow air into the engine.

Police pulled the man over on Tuesday about midday during random testing operations in Dharruk, about 46 kilometres west of the CBD.

“An examination of the vehicle was carried out and it showed the vehicle to have seriously defective and worn out tyres,” the Facebook post read.
“On inspection of the engine bay an everyday ordinary garden variety blower vac was located in the vehicles air filter box.”

The driver also tested positive to having methamphetamine in his system both in a roadside test, and in further testing conducted at Mt Druitt police station.

He was then issued a 24-hour driving prohibition notice and defect notice.
Police said they were still awaiting a return on laboratory results.

Oh, you could not make this stuff up....... :lach:

A man's attempt at a romantic proposal were dashed when a calamity of errors occurred - all thanks to a naked homeless man chasing a dog with a dildo in its mouth.

Posting a recap to Reddit, the unlucky man revealed the order of events that resulted in him losing the engagement ring he was about to give his girlfriend.

The man, known only as EdwardScissorFingers, said that he had planned what he believed to be the perfect proposal, only to be foiled by bizarre circumstances.

Man outraged over $281 fine for 'untidy parking'

https://au.news.yahoo.com/man-outraged- ... 53020.html

An elderly man has hit out at a council for issuing an ‘unfair’ parking fine after his Land Rover was seen creeping over the white lines in a car park.

Roger Murray was at the Macclesfield multi-storey towns centre car park in England when he was slapped with the $281 ticket for “untidy parking”.

Mr Murray claims the parking spaces are tight and even when parked correctly his car barely fits between the lines and is just five inches from a wall.

“Hence my passenger wouldn’t be able to get out! So had to park overlapping the line,” he posted on Facebook.
Mr Murray said the roof beam at the car park was also so low it scraped the top of his car when attempting to park.
“I felt this [is] a most unfair fine,” he wrote on Facebook.

“As directed on the ticket, wrote a letter of appeal to the ticket office in Crewe, and spoke to people at the Macclesfield council but they just passed the buck saying they couldn’t do anything about it, wasn’t their department.”

Mr Murray said he spoke to a councillor and while he was sympathetic, he was “powerless to intervene”.
The 89-year-old wrote on Facebook he is refusing to pay the fine, which resulted in what he claims was a threatening letter from a debt recovery company employed by council.

He claimed the company threatened to seize goods from his home if he didn’t pay and could possibly incur further charges for storing those items.

“Thankfully think I can cope with it but a lot of people of my age would be completely traumatised and frightened,” he said.

“The council is partly at fault as their allocated spaces are much too small.
“I probably should have paid the fine, but there are times when you feel the thing is so unjust that you make a stand.”

Mr Murray said while he did park over the line, he thought council’s actions were over the top.
Many agreed with Mr Murray, urging him to ignore the fine.

Judge orders man’s mouth be taped shut for repeatedly interrupting court

https://au.news.yahoo.com/judge-orders- ... 22514.html

A district court judge has gone to extreme lengths to stop a man from interrupting proceedings by ordering his mouth be taped closed.

Michael C. Duhon was being sentenced on July 18 for theft and money laundering in the US state of Louisiana, the Acadiana Advocate reports.

Court minutes show Duhon objected when Judge Marilyn Castle asked him to stop submitting motions on his own behalf instead of through his attorney.

After repeatedly requesting for Duhon to be quiet, Castle ordered the bailiff to tape Duhon’s mouth shut.

The tape was removed after an objection from Duhon’s lawyer, Aaron Adams, who requested the judge remove his client from the courtroom instead.

Castle sentenced Duhon to 11 years in prison and recommended he be transferred to a facility with mental health treatment options.

Another public defender in the courtroom faces contempt charges for recording the incident.

'You had one job': Light rail workers mocked over simple mistake

https://au.news.yahoo.com/sydney-light- ... 52503.html

As the controversial, over-budget Sydney Light Rail work nears completion, a passerby has taken a photo of tram markings which encapsulates the ongoing woes of the project.

Testing of the new fleet of trams has been taking place in recent weeks, with the finishing touches being applied to the line that connects Circular Quay with Randwick.

And while Transport Minister Andrew Constance continues to speak of the delayed project’s success, new markings to identify which way trams will travel along Devonshire Street near Central station has become the latest source of embarrassment.

During a seemingly easy task, workers have incorrectly placed the westbound marking in the middle of the two sets of tracks, instead of in between the westbound rails.

As it stands, the markings appear to indicate the trams in either direction would share a rail.

Basketball star banned after drug test reveals he's pregnant

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/dj-cooper-d ... vUW7-IHAd2

American basketball player DJ Cooper has received one of the more astounding suspensions in recent memory.

Cooper stepped away from AS Monaco late in 2018 for “family reasons,” though he attempted to join the Bosnian national team as a naturalised player later that year.

The former Ohio University standout never made it, however, and was instead handed a two-year suspension from FIBA for failing a drug test.

But it wasn’t performance enhancing drugs, recreational drugs or any of the other usual suspects that thwarted Cooper.
His drug test, according to Eurohoops.net, revealed that he was pregnant.

The test on the urine that Cooper provided revealed the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG, which is a hormone made by the placenta during pregnancy.

That urine, per the report, actually belonged to his girlfriend — who likely didn’t know she was pregnant at the time.

So, FIBA suspended Cooper for fraud. He’s eligible to return on June 20, 2020.

Two homosexual penguins prepare to become dads

https://au.news.yahoo.com/gay-penguins- ... 50657.html

Two homosexual emperor penguins at Berlin Zoo are preparing for the patter of tiny feet after zoo staff gave them an egg to adopt last month.

"The two male penguins are acting like exemplary parents, taking turns to warm the egg," zoo spokesman Maximilian Jaeger said on Friday.

The two soon-to-be parents, Skipper and Ping, were staying close by each other and protecting the egg from the other penguins.

Skipper and Ping came to Berlin from Hamburg's zoo in April. The two 10-year-old emperor penguins had been showing clear signs that they wanted an egg for a while.

"They kept trying to hatch fish and stones," Jaeger said. After watching them do this, the zoo staff gave them a real egg from the only female in the group, who had tried and failed to hatch her eggs for several years in a row.

Once they were given the real egg, the two gay penguins got straight to work. "We're not sure if the egg has been fertilised," Jaeger explained. If it has been, then it should take around 55 days for the hatchling to emerge.
