Nothing whatsoever against Spurs. Torquay and Exeter maybe, but my list of hated
teams ends there.

I remember you once posting that you hated Arsenal, even when their football was at its best, because they used to be boring under George Graham and winning 1 nil

Yes, boring, boring Arsenal :D . That took a lot of getting over. I hated watching them play, but I don't and have never hated Arsenal. In fact I had a lot of respect for Arsene Wenger.

Oh, just read your 2nd paragraph. Was that really George Graham? I actually remember the 'boring, boring' days as being under Arsene. However, I bow to your better memory

I considered the late 90's as the 'boring, boring' years. Whoever was in charge, I found it very hard to watch them.

Well, if VAR's is the future of football, God help us. Why not, for every goal, go back far enough in the build up until you see some infringement to disallow the goal?

Fans are going to get sick of it - I am already. Although in the ManC game, the problem stems from the changes to handball. No-one on the pitch or in the ground saw an issue with that goal and we all know that deep down, there wasn't.

It was from the Graham era.

Well - an entertaining 4-5 hours of football today. A few things I noticed...

Chelsea looked much better (than the first game I watched) in stages of the game. Mount (again) and Abraham getting goals will be a massive confidence boost for them but Chelsea still need to be more clinical in front of goal. Missed a few easy chances. Norwich look like a team that is gonna ship a fair few goals this season. Defence easily taken apart too often. Overall Chelsea deserved the win and should have had more.

Liverpool are gonna be the team to beat this year. Arsenal did well first half but were completely outplayed 2nd half. Arsenal's Pepe finally erased that pesky 'no one's dribbled past Van Dijk in a year' stat and looks to be a good signing - but needs some shooting practice. Liverpool though just turned up the tempo, as they do, and were unplayable for most of the 2nd 45. Dizzying watching them play sometimes!

Man United are still shit. :thumb:

With both their “nominated“ penalty takers missing in consecutive games, I wonder who will take the next one?

It still took Luiz at his most dumb for them to get their 2nd and 3rd. I'm nor sure Liverpool are firing on all cylinders yet, or even if they will?

That's a fair comment. With better defending they could have stayed in the game. Did I mention that I didn't rate Luiz. That I didn't think he was the right man to fix Arsenal's defence...

Your bench very often wins games.

I've noticed a massive improvement on Spurs' bench over the last few years. Players happy to be rotated for the good of the team. Being able to bring on the likes of (depending on first 11) Moura, Lamela, Son, Winks, Erikson, Lo Celso, Dele to get a goal. We don't have a natural straight swap for Kane but either Son or Moura can play that position. Our defence has a few options too with Sanchez, Vertongen and Alderweireld all adept in the middle with young Foyth coming through (who can also play on the right as he does for Argentina) too. Our wing backs are not the greatest with Danny Rose and Walker-Peters being a little on their own. Ryan Sessegnon will come into play soon and I'm sure he will be a steal at 25 mil. Aurier isn't a reliable option and apparently wants out due to lack of first team action. Davies is ok'ish'.

Liverpool and City have a 'spare' quality player in each position pretty much. If someone is injured, it doesn't affect them too much. Yesterday Chelsea had options of Alonso, Willian and Giroud - not bad for a bench! Arsenal had Lacazette and Torreira to bring on.

I say this as I noticed a shocking lack of depth in the United squad and can't figure out how, after spending over half a billion in 5 years, it is as threadbare as it currently stands. Not one of the people on the bench yesterday (below) are game changers except maybe Mata on a good day - which seem to be few and far between. None of them would get a place in any of the top 10 sides.

8 Mata
15 Pereira
18 Young
22 Romero
26 Greenwood
31 Matic
38 Tuanzebe

Bringing on Young (replaced an injury), Mata and a 17 year old Greenwood to try win the game . Their squad looks pathetic. Such a shame for such a glorious club...

Bit shit from Spurs today but all credit to Newcastle. They pinched every little area we usually work with. Players were tireless. Defended... and defended... and defended, brilliantly throughout. Played out their game plan to a tee. Got the smash and grab goal they came for.

Spurs don't really work well when there's a whole team behind the ball defending. Something we must improve on quickly. I mean... just start peppering their keeper with shots from outside the box! We have the talent for that. One of them will go in eventually. But no - we keep trying intricate passing to unlock their 9 defenders.

Disappointing but we march on. We've played badly for 3 games and got 4 points out of it. Let's hope we find our rhythm soon. There's no doubt we're top 4 again and in with a shout at some of the cups but City and Liverpool are still just way ahead unfortunately - a few good signings doesn't seem to have changed that.

Edit: I hate to say it but - we looked a little like United did yesterday. Devoid of ideas.

I hate to say it too, but based on yesterday’s performance, Big Boy would be right about Harry Kane’s (lack of) performance!!

Yup, Harry had a shocker. There's no good in him hanging around up front when we're playing shit like that. He aint hardly ever gonna see the ball and needs to drop deeper. The 2 times he did see the ball he should have scored but fluffed his lines. :banghead:

With all the optimism and 'bigging up' I've been giving Spurs I didn't realise our current form stat. If we continue to get the results we have done over the last 17 premier league games... we will be in or around the relegation zone come the end of the season.
