A bit lucky this season so far. Surely a crash is imminent though!

Yes he’s doing a Lewis Hamilton on all you other guys!!pharvey wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 4:14 am Another cracking race! And what a job the Mercedes Tactical Team did - Genius, and certainly pulled a fast one on Red Bull!![]()

Verstappen showed a great deal of pressure with LH in pursuit, but in all fairness gave it all he could. Still think the guy is arrogant and dangerous, but fair play to him for his display today.
Ferrari can't be happy despite a 3/4 finish - realistically they were nowhere near Mercedes or Red Bull. A lot of work to do over the break I think for Ferrari, although I doubt anyone will be resting!
Unfortunately can't see Bottas with Mercedes next season - personally I think he should be there, but just can't see it. Who's going to take his place though?
NOTE: Pete - Can you do us all a favour and take a longer break to give us a chance to catch-up!!![]()

Thai driver Albon replaces Gasly at Red Bull F1 team
https://www.bangkokpost.com/sports/1728 ... ll-f1-team
LONDON: Toro Rosso rookie Alexander Albon will replace under-performing Pierre Gasly as Max Verstappen's Red Bull team mate from the next race in Belgium until the end of the season, the Formula One team said on Monday.
Gasly will go in the other direction, taking British-born Thai driver Albon's seat at the sister team where the 23-year-old Frenchman started out before being promoted at the end of last year.
The Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is on Sept 1 and is the first race after Formula One's August break.
"Red Bull are in the unique position of having four talented Formula One drivers under contract who can be rotated between Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso," Red Bull said in a statement.
"The team will use the next nine races to evaluate Alex’s performance in order to make an informed decision as to who will drive alongside Max in 2020."
Verstappen has won two of 12 races this season and is third overall on 181 points while Gasly, the 2016 GP2 (now F2) champion, has struggled with just 63 points.
To add to his embarrassment, he has been twice lapped by Verstappen.
Red Bull are third in the constructors' standings but need both drivers finishing consistently high up to have a chance of overtaking Ferrari, who are 44 points ahead of them in second place with champions Mercedes far in front.
Team principal Christian Horner expressed his frustration at the most recent race in Hungary in which Verstappen started on pole position and finished second to Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton with Gasly only sixth.
"The start wasn’t great, the first lap wasn’t great and we shouldn’t be racing Saubers (the Alfa Romeo cars) and McLarens," he said. "We need him to be racing Ferraris and Mercedes.
"The problem is he’s not in the mix at all," he added.
Gasly had performed well last year at Toro Rosso and moved up to Red Bull when Australian Daniel Ricciardo decided to move to Renault.
His demotion means Toro Rosso now have two drivers rejected by Red Bull, with Russian Daniil Kvyat also promoted and demoted and then dropped entirely before being given a second chance.
Albon has got himself noticed this season with strong performances. The same age as Gasly, he has scored 16 of Toro Rosso's 43 points from 12 races.

Renault Formula 1 team introduces new Spec C engine, gets penalties
https://au.sports.yahoo.com/renault-for ... 37383.html
Renault has elected to introduce its new Spec C Formula 1 engine for the Belgian Grand Prix, meaning both Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg will take grid penalties.
The firm hopes the minor upgrades to reliability and performance with the new engine will boost its competitiveness after a disappointing first half of 2019.
With Renault having already taken grid penalties for using new components, the changes to the internal combustion engine will mean a five-place grid drop for both drivers.
The change will be Ricciardo's fifth new ICE for the season and Hulkenberg's sixth.
McLaren also has the option of taking the new engine for this weekend, but has so far not confirmed its plans.
Speaking on Thursday about what his team would do, Lando Norris said: "We have the possibility to choose the new one, but if we do it obviously comes with the penalty and there's still a long way to go in the season.
"We haven't decided yet but if we want to use it we can. The decision will be made tomorrow."

F1 2020 calendar: Formula One reveals gruelling 22-race schedule with seven back-to-back weekends
https://au.sports.yahoo.com/f1-2020-cal ... 00064.html
Formula One drivers face a record seven back-to-back grand prix weekends next season after the provisional 2020 calendar was unveiled, with Vietnam installed as the third round of the championship and the Netherlands included for the first time in 35 years.
The calendar, which will go before the FIA World Motor Sport Council at the next meeting on 4 October, is the largest ever to be put together by F1, with Spain and Great Britain also included after doubts over their short-term futures were put to bed in recent weeks.
However, the grid will only grow by one race next season as there is no German Grand Prix, with Hockenheim dropping off the calendar despite this year’s thrilling race in the wet.
The season will get underway as usual in Australia on the weekend of 13-15 March, before heading to Bahrain just a week later in what is the first of seven back-to-back weekends – meaning teams will have to head straight to the Arab State from Down Under.
After the season-opening double-header, the paddock will visit Vietnam for the first time following the inclusion of the Hanoi Street Circuit on 3-5 April, becoming the 34th country to stage an F1 Grand Prix in the process.
It means that China is pushed back to the fourth slot in the calendar, before the Dutch Grand Prix returns to Zandvoort on 1-3 May.
A number of races will feature slightly later than they did in 2019 as a result, although the Azerbaijan Grand Prix moves from the fourth slot on the calendar to the eight to promote the Monaco Grand Prix to its usual standing on 22-24 May.
The British Grand Prix will take place at Silverstone on 19 July, meaning it no longer clashes with the Wimbledon men’s singles final as well as the major football tournament, which next year sees the Euro 2020 final the week before.
The Italian Grand Prix also features, and despite the inclusion of an asterisk next to its name due to the need to confirm a new deal for Monza to remain on the calendar, an announcement is expected in the near-future as the 2019 version takes place next weekend.
The calendar may cause some controversy among teams and drivers though, given they face a gruelling schedule that will see back-to-back weekends between Australia and Bahrain, the Netherlands and Spain, Azerbaijan and Canada, France and Austria, Belgium and Italy, Singapore and Russia and finally the United States and Mexico – which has been rebranded as the Mexico City Grand Prix from 2020.
Teams have also expressed concerns at Liberty Media’s plan to expand the calendar to as many as 24 races in the near-future, given the strain it will put on mechanics and other staff members required to travel to every grand prix.
But Liberty’s chief executive Chase Carey insisted it is part of their long-term vision for the sport, and not something that they plan on U-turning on.
“Since we became involved in this sport in 2017, we have talked about developing new destination cities to broaden the appeal of Formula One and at the same time, consolidating our presence in Europe, the traditional home of the sport,” Carey said.
“It is significant for our sport and confirms our long-term strategy.”

Have to feel for Lando Norris, going into the final lap in 5th place and finishing in 11th after suffering "mechanical problems"....... Not a good day for McLaren with Carlos Sainz Jnr also retiring.

Not a big fan of F1 but this Netflix series is a brilliant warts n all behind the scenes look of the 2018 season. Season 2 confirmed for this current season.
